    Bringing ducks indoors?

Thanks for asking. She transitioned well and her buddies were happy to see her. Winters are a little rough for her. I look forward to it warming to double digits so i can set up a bath for them all.

    Bringing ducks indoors?

Yes, they all live in a great duck house but she needed attention that could only be administered indoors. She is doing great now though. Just dont want to shock her system with the transition. Thank you for your reply ☺️

    Bringing ducks inside occasionally

Same question but mine has been inside from 9 degrees for a week getting rehabbed. It is time to return to the coop and 30 degrees for a couple of days. Im concerned about shocking her system and wondering if there is a safe way to transition

    Bringing ducks indoors?

I have a similar question. I had to bring my duck in who has a lame foot. She needed to be cleaned up as grooming is difficult for her and the cold water baths outside did not help much. I cooled the house down as much as was reasonable, then warmed it up slowly to my comfort level. It was 9...

Balance issue with my Pekin Lady

Sorry for the lengthy absence. Thank you for your responses. ❤️ My girl with the balance problem is still with me. Turns out her leg is fine but her foot is non functional. No change with supplemental B and no she is not overweight. I included a pic of her foot and her in her rehab box below...

    Questions about duck eggs

I have found steaming eggs using a metal veggie steamer in the bottom of a sauce pan for 20 minutes produces the most easily peeled eggs EVER! The only thing easier would be if they peeled themselves. Now, with an Instant Pot, I steam 2-3 dozen at a time. Fresh laid eggs were like peeling a...

Balance issue with my Pekin Lady

I have 6 female ducks that are going into their third winter. One of them has been having balance issues and uses her wings to help steady herself. She eats and drinks normally and follows the rest out into the yard. He poo seems the same as the rest. She does not move around as much as the...

    Can field mice hurt ducks??

Thank you, they are easy subjects and fun to photograph. We have 1/2 inch hardware cloth over everything so I feel confident that nothing can get at them from outside other than a bear but they don't need to be teased and terrified by this midnight raider. Poor things. Have a blessed day!

    Can field mice hurt ducks??

Miss Lydia... mystery solved, or at least our best guess. A raccoon was definitely about. There was evidence of that where it tore the plastic off. I think they did it to themselves. I have been doing the deep litter method and their favorite place to hang is under the elevated part of their...

    Can field mice hurt ducks??

The first is a pic of the three victims. The rest are of each injury. If you view on your phone and zoom in you can get better detail.

    Can field mice hurt ducks??

It looks like bite marks to me. I will try to get a picture and send it. They have been in their house for over a year now and there are no protruding nails or sharp edges so I don't think so but will be going over the space with a very critical eye.

    Can field mice hurt ducks??

Right now it is the only thing I can think of making those marks. And the injured parties are the most agressive eater although all six of them have a pretty passive nature. Can I dip their whole head in Epsom water or just dab their bill?

    Can field mice hurt ducks??

Could the mice get in a few blows? Three of my Pekins have small bite marks on their bill. No evidence of a larger predator breech.

Small bite marks on duck bill

This morning I noticed 3 of my Pekins has blood streaks on their bill. Once cleaned off it appears on one to be definite bite marks. Two, small, slightly gouged marks. The other two are similar but not as defined. I looked fir tracks in the snow (yes really we still have snow) but saw none...
