helping chicks out of their shells

HELP, I have a chick that pipped and zipped from the side of the egg. I can see him clearly, but I'm afraid to break the membrane as there are blood spots on it. HE could get out if he just popped out the side, but he's staying in there? The wrap is strating to shrink? Leave it or what, I'm...

MITES on 5 day old chicks

I don't see mites, and I thought it may be the new feathers coming in. Would you be able to see all types of mites. I thought that there were some that were so small you can't see them, and that they borrow into the skin and the feather shafts?

MITES on 5 day old chicks

One of the bonuses of getting chicks from a hatchery or from TSC is that they come with extra critters. The babes have mites I'm guessing from the concentrated preening and ocassionaly scratching. I'm afraid I don't know what to put on them, as this can't be good. What works!

Mixed Bantams: Newbie makes stupid mistake at TSC

Yup, went to TSC and came back with 8 banties - straight run. Lost one today, it drowned in the water - I believe it was a blue cochin - the only one too One is a golden seabright, and the other 6 are a tan with a dark brown stripe down their backs, one of these is slightly lighter in color...

Does the over night sneak in work? UPDATE pics pg 3

I introduce new birds, or birds that have been recovering and were separated from the flock into the flock when they are all outside. I'da know, it just seems to work. My newly raised roo was scalped and when he recovered he went to live in the fenced sheep yard - slept with them for about 3...

Help Chicks Going After Each Other's Eyes!

I have regular rubber maid tub with shavings, water and chick starter. I also have a red lamp. I thought it must be too hot, so I raised the light to see if that quells the activity. It appears to have done so. The most aggresive chick appears to be a cochin blue. The others appear to be...

    Silkie thread!

I'm new to Silkies! I LOVE them Some questions: Are these birds reticient? My new pullets are quiet and shy. They keep to themselves. The rest of the birds are buff orpingtons, one silkie EE cross and one silkie EE cross roo, one gold laced wyandotte (who is kind'a bullying but not...

    Reintegration into the flock

Here's what I do. I have a medium dog crate. I place the wire crate in the coop with food and water. If the ruckus is too great, then I put a barrier on the exposed side of the crate so they can only yell at the inmates from the front. After some time, when everyone's being ignored, I remove...

Which horse would you choose? *pics*

S.T.A.R. - If you're still here, here's what I suggest. Find a good riding/training barn and take lessons. Get a feel for the place, then consider half leasing a horse. The horse lives at the barn, the costs for care are not left to you, and you can learn, and show with the rest of the barn...

Im sick of people shoving this away it NEEDS to be noted!!!!

Quote: Emotion is not "foreknowledge", I never stated that animals plan their day. They live in the now and in some cases their behavior is goveroned by increases or decreases in light (such as in preparing for hibranation). The responses of fear, depression, anger, joy, excitement are a...

What do you guys think of these colts? Pics on page 3,6,7,8 & 12

I agree with Pat. The horse is too young to have work done on him. Handle, light ground work - not too much longe to keep the tork off of his joints and lots of patience to let him develop mentally as well as physically. We're fond, here in the US of riding as soon as our feet won't drag on...

Im sick of people shoving this away it NEEDS to be noted!!!!

I've had this "emotions" discussion before. Logically, animals have "emotions". Emotion is a response to a stimulus, either positive or negative. In the realm of "chicken", or "dog" or "cat", or "horse - etc. an animal needs to have a response to a stimulus in order to navigate successfully...

Who all is going through a molt?

me too! Got feathers?! Apple cider vinager helps quicken the molt process; makes hard shiney feathers, and good shells on eggs. 1 cup per 1 gallon of water in a NON metal container! Get unpasterized vinager if you can. The cloudy "mother" in the vinager is important.

College question: What do they mean when they say per credit hour?

each course is either 1, 2, or 3 credits. This means that the price per course is then multiplyed by the credits per course. Credit hours are necessary for accrediation, that's all. Apply for a Pell grant on line. And get your text books from Amazon marketplace or Cheaptext.com good luck!
