Am I the only Dane mom here? Anyway, I have a fawn boy named Jameson. I love him so much! We were looking for a Dane from a reputable breeder for a long time. He’s purebred, of course. (I love to brag on him, so please bear with me. :gig) First dog I’ve ever purchased. Rest were rescues...
It’s risky buying off a site such as Craigslist. I had a bad, bad experience with purchasing laying hens off Craigslist. My entire flock is now ill with Mycoplasma. :he I have yet to cull them, it’s just a sad thing to go through. :hit I am hoping you will find some wonderful girls to add to...
I know that Cackle Hatchery is now selling started pullets, I saw on their website a couple weeks ago. I don’t know if they have Wyandotte pullets, they might though. I’d check it out! It is located in MO, but they will ship to you. May be kind of expensive, but you get what you pay for! :)
They will be fine with their mother, she will protect them against harsh weather. Hens have been raising their babies for decades. The mother hen will always be around with her babies. She teaches them how to eat and drink and will be there the whole time.
Are you sure she is drinking a gallon or is the waterer leaking? I would check for punctures in the waterer, and be sure you have set it up correctly. I had this problem before, turns out I wasn’t screwing the cover on tight enough and it leaked through the fountain and spilled out of the tray...
Chickens will eat and eat, unless you cut them back.
I say, if you let them free range and they get their grass, bugs, and greens, you don’t need to provide scratch. Provide treats occasionally. You don’t want to spoil your flock to the point they’re obese.
I don’t remember the amount of feed...
You must purchase at least 15 birds to not get the under 15 birds fee, which is an extra $20. It is harder to keep a smaller quantity of chicks warm, especially during this time of year. Here in IL, we are having a snow and ice storm. I can’t imagine how bad it is in Maine.
I like the Cackle Hatchery best. Never had any babies from them die on their part. If they ever did die, it was always my fault. The babies have always arrived healthy and active. Imo, Cackle is the best. :thumbsup You can also choose if you want females, males, or straight run. If you get the...
It is probably nothing more major than small burp in the egg production. Have you been feeding them the same feed and not changing it up? Is there any illness going around the flock that you may be unaware of?
I have recently changed my screen name. My title says “Previously bluee” instead of “Chillin’ With My Peeps.” Will the “Previously bluee” title go away?
