Thanks. I have looked and looked for mites and never found one. Depluming mites arent visible to naked eye from what I understand. There’s no mite poop at the base of feathers, so i dont think it’s mites. I treated today regardless.
I finally did it today. DEEP cleaned. Took out all bedding, shoot vac all dust and spiderwebs. Sprayed Elector in coop and run and dipped the girls. I still dont think it’s mites, but figured it can’t hurt.
No mounting. No rooster and I’ve watched hours and hours of camera footage looking for bullying among hens. I’m at a loss.
Entire bottom and belly are bald as well
What could be causing this? No roosters. Tons of space. Not being picked on. Skin looks perfectly healthy. Looked at feather shafts under microscope and no mites. Her entire booty and belly are bald too
Sorry it’s been rough. No shame in rehoming. They aren’t bringing you joy and I assume that was the point in having them.
I rehomed a flock about 10 years ago when we had to make an unexpected move to where I couldn’t keep chickens. I found their home on a local chicken facebook group. I...
Thanks. I do think it’s feather pecking but was planning on treating for mites “just in case” because it’s the only thing I haven’t tried aside from pinless peepers. But maybe it’s time for the peepers.
😭
Their run is 20x16, coop is 8x6 with 12’ of roosts. There are 7 in the flock now that...
Thank you!!!
Previous feed - natures best organic all flock
Current feed- Kalmbach flock raiser
They get about 2 cups of black
Soldier fly every other day
No roosters.
All started in December. Two hens had palm size wounds under their vents and feathers missing on their rumps...
Frosting part for me is I’m just guessing at mites because I’m desperate. Vet says they are parasite free, but they are NAKED on their backsides and getting worse. Four out of 9 have completely names rumps and now it’s moving up to above their tails. I have moved two to a serrated coop...
Next week I’m doing a deep clean and treating with Elector PSP for depluming mites (even though my gut tells me it’s feather pecking, not mites). How would I treat the run? It’s mix of sand and wood chips. I don’t want to use DE (if it’s bad for our lungs, sure;y it’s bad for theirs when...
Thank you. Yes, they are on Kalmbach Flock Maker and get scrambled eggs once a week and get black soldier flies daily.
I tried trimming the peepers and they shook them off when I tried them on
I have to resort to pinless peepers. Half my flock is bald. I’ve had them tested for depluming mites and they have no mites of any kind.
I separated the two that I thought might be plucking feathers. I have no roosters. But they are still getting worse and worse.
(Started in...
I’d like to
Keep the window to swap out in the winter. Maybe I but some
Plexiglass and try to cut a new one and then cut out the middle to add hardware cloth ….
i have a Smart Coop that I use as an isolation coop when I have issues with my flock in the big coop. It is plastic and has plexiglass windows. I’d like to replace the windows with mesh of some kind. It would need to be rigid so a raccoon can’t just bend it and pull it out. I dont want to...
