The weather this year has been crazy. Case in point my dinner last night was pesto spaghetti made from basil and garlic scapes from my garden. This is my first time having either of them ready this early in the growing season.
thanks everyone for your responses. Sorry for my delay in responding but my internet just came back this evening after being off for two days.
thank you @jchny2000 for offering to do that :) I now feel so much better with a place to give any boys I get a home
I was wondering if we still had any active local breeders in or near Indy? I want to add 3 chicks to my flock and I'd rather support heritage breeds then hatchery. However where I live I'm only allowed hens no roosters so buying straight run is tricky. I'm hoping if I get any roosters one of you...

on your netting did you buy single spike or double spike netting? i'm wondering as there seems to be a big price difference between the two and i wonder if it's worth buying DS.
i'm wanting to buy electric fencing from premier 1 supplies but I was wondering if any of the good people on here know if and when premier 1 ever run sales on their electric fencing? as i'd like to save some money on an expensive purchase. I should explain i'm wanting it to fence my garden to...

I didn't have any problems last winter but i made sure to frequently change their bedding throughout the winter so moisture didn't build up to cause any trouble.
My own coop is a plastic shed i converted and i didn't insulate or heat it. this will be its second winter and i had no problems last year. i don't think you'll have any troubles as long as you have good ventilation.
if this link works here are photos i've post previously of my coop. yay it...
Carmel allows 6 hens only. Fishers allows no chickens perhaps your lady had like 5 acres and can be considered a farm. i have friends that live in fishers and would like chickens but aren't allowed to yet their council board isn't being cooperative on creating/changing the ordinance. it looks...
I don't have large animals but what about seeding it with edible mushroom spores. I swear i watched a tv show on mushroom growing and it had them in straw with urine as the growing medium and i was teasing my siblings that eat mushrooms what they were raised in.
i don't know about plants as my hens are in a run but i give mine the strawberry top greens when i buy strawberries to eat and it's one of their favorite treats
