My goats have been eating some chicken feed for months now and they are still alive. I guess nobody told them not to eat it or they die. My chickens also eat goat feed and rabbit feed and they are still alive also. Things must just be different here.
I think you did a great job on you bator. I wouldn't change anything. I would make sure your thermometer is accurate by checking it with others. place water anywhere you wish. I got some 3/4 inch hose and ran it in to my bowl so I could fill it with having to open the bator.

If you got 9 eggs and only 3 older buffs they are laying. 3 buffs are not going to give you 9 eggs. I have a few RIR that are 23 weeks and 1 just started 2 eggs ago. None of the others have laid yet.
I have done some reading on it and ever thing says they get it from 10 to 22 weeks of age and found nothing on giving older chickens the shot. I am sure you can give it to them with out any harm.

Molting is when the feather falls out of the quill (the part that holds the feather in the skin). It looks like a dog with mange. I have one molting now and she looks awful.
Because on of the experienced folks on here said so is all I know. She had a squishy crop.
