(GRAPHIC) Neighbor's dog got through my fences, killed them ALL

The sheriff's deputy said he went over to the dog owning neighbor's a couple of times, nobody answered the door. No doughnuts or "Real Police" episode in the offing, not a priority for him. He would not CALL them on the phone either. In 13 years of owning property next to theirs, they have...

(GRAPHIC) Neighbor's dog got through my fences, killed them ALL

Thanks, but I'm not going to get more birds. Between this episode, the past eagle, fox and coyote predations and the OTHER neighbor with his two dogs he wouldn't keep on his own property after multiple requests- Which dogs killed 14 of our turkeys- I don't care to continue. It's not the dogs. I...

...STEEL TIES OR WIRES FOR LONG TERM DURABILITY. I found some of the ties could be broken with my fingers now, 3 years later. Guess the dog did too. *NOTE TO OTHER CHICKEN OWNERS: Plastic zip ties are degraded by ultra violet light (UV) in sunlight. They get weaker the longer they are out in...

Wild turkey hens seduced our tom-

I hope not... But these guys are not terribly different looking, at dawn or dusk the color difference might not stand out. In full sunlight on a snowy field, less than 50' away, I noticed the red coloration immediately.

Wild turkey hens seduced our tom-

Yup! "young Tom" as we called hims legacy lives on... To dreadfully confuse our local wild turkey hunters, I suspect.

Wild turkey hens seduced our tom-

A week past, late Janary 2021, I was driving out to the store and noticed a small flock of turkeys quite near the road about a mile North of where our old Red Bourbon tom got his freak on with the several wild turkey hens. Two of the seven turkeys looked somewhat stockier/shorter and most...

Guardian geese for free range turkeys

We have had turkeys for several years, allowing them to free range during the days when we are we working near their pen outdoors, which happens most days during the summer. We had over the years lost a bird occasionally to coyotes or several young poults to a fox which managed to get through...

Wild turkey hens seduced our tom-

A flock of 5 wild turkey hens started coming out of the woods every morning and evening, walking around our small flock of bourbon reds in their pen and apparently lusting after young Tom, our only male. We free range the turkeys when we are around to watch them, and the wild turkeys decided...

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

Same here. Had my best 2 KC drakes selected, the others were made into "peking duck". Then an EAGLE passed through here hungry, no more KC drakes. Bugger! I also had selected and saved the best couple of pekin ducks to try for a KC/Pekin cross for a hybrid egg duck. Now all my plans are stymied.

Which duck laid the black eggs?!

Oh gee. 5 minutes with google, and now I know it was probably a Cayuga! And maybe some of them will lay GREEN EGGS?! COOL!!! I have accidentally raised a flock of Easter Egger ducks! I wonder how my customers are going to like them. I just ate the one in the picture for lunch, scrambled up...

Which duck laid the black eggs?!

Nope, it was laid on dead grass out in our orchard with no muddy area close by, and was not there for more than 12 hours before being collected. The Grey is a surface coating and can be scratched off. It does not wash off with water. Kind of like the exterior coloring of my brown chicken eggs...

Which duck laid the black eggs?!

This mornings baker's dozen of duck eggs- We have Khaki Campbells, Cayuga black and Swedish blue ducks, along with one KC/Cayuga cross we hatched last year. I had seen an occasional egg with a Grey "wash" or speckles last season, but this is extreme.

    Socializing ducks

For tempting duck treats, coarsely chop up some romaine lettuce, or thaw out a handful of frozen green peas. Or try a scrambled egg, especially for ducklings who can use that extra protein. We take cracked or frozen chicken eggs, put them in the blender shells and all, then microwave the...

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

The couple of KC drakes I have slaughtered would barely feed 2 adults 1 meal, with maybe some soup stock from the remains/bones. These ducks have mainly some nice breast meat, very little from thigh or leg, and that leg/thigh meat is TOUGH from my free ranging ducks. Try a KC/Pekin cross for a...

Help! Lost my last Silver Grey Dorking rooster ;(

I We got a couple of Dorking roos from Murray McMurray in Spring of 2015. They are doing OK, although a bit smaller than the 2 we had kept from 2013- Still planning on trying to brood some more Dorkings this Spring. Have 8 hens left from 2013 and 1 mis sexed pullet delivered as a cockeral...

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

I give mine little zig zag alcoves with open top, made out of snow fence and plastic fence posts, just something to hide in and lay eggs. I put down clean coarse "wash sand" over a layer of sawdust and bark mulch on the ground in the duck enclosure where I do this, and rake/replace when it gets...

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

My Leghorns poop in their water every time I replace it so I am kind of used to that kind of a mess. I have no idea why they do that- at least the ducks are swimming when they crap their water. ----------- GET CHICKEN NIPPLES!!! Seriously. Best thing ever for easying up watering chores, I...

    Gold Star ducks?

I understand that. They do not breed true, so these are a cross of two strains. I am curious as to WHICH two varieties these are bred from. One is almost certainly Khaki Campbell-
