    bantam constantly being bullied

Honestly, if it’s at all possible I would make her a house chicken so she can have companionship (and supervised solo outdoor time) with YOU. And if you have dogs or cats that would make this plan impossible, see if there’s someone else who could take her and give her this kind of life. Unusual...

Losing hope with chicks that hate me 😣

I just went through this with my EE pullets and was so deeply dismayed...more to share but meanwhile I did find this video today and maybe you’ll find it helpful:

    Dried alfalfa at 6 weeks?

Folks, is it okay to throw in some dried alfalfa for my six-week-old pullets? I want to give them something fun to scratch around for, since all they have now is dirt, pine shavings and crumble, and I’m reading they’re still a little young for scratch. No bugs or grass in the dirt either. I’m...

Alchemist Farm Azure Egger female or something else?

I really appreciate the post, because a month ago I got two Azure Eggers and three straight run Seramas from Franchesca, and unfortunately I hit the rooster jackpot with the Seramas (which I’m now trying to rehome). So if my “for-sure” pullets popped red combs in a few weeks and I wasn’t...

3 beautiful Serama Cockerels, 5 weeks old, San Francisco Bay Area

Hello everyone, I'm heartbroken to part with these guys, but we must. $20 each, but if you take more than one I will discount. I have hand-raised them from chicks so they are quite tame. The first in the photos is silked. Please message me with interest!

Serama rooster + 2 standard hens?

How far away from the hens would the roos have to be, do you reckon? And would it be okay for both flocks to take turns with supervised free-ranging in the larger area where both enclosures would be? Or would hens occasionally parading in front of the rooster run, and/or vice versa, cause distress?

Serama rooster + 2 standard hens?

I’m so tempted to keep them together, because they’ve been raised together and they all sleep together in a little clump...but of course it’s like thinking your fifteen year old child is going to be little and cute and sweet like your five year old child ... not that teenagers aren’t lovable but...

Serama rooster + 2 standard hens?

    Oh yeah. Crowing. 😂

Serama rooster + 2 standard hens?

Thank you ☺️ So...help me be realistic here. One tiny rooster plus two big hens (and more later, but not for awhile unfortunately) is fine. What about ... TWO tiny roosters? And surely it’s absurd to think I could keep all THREE tiny roosters? I’m pretty sure that’s ridiculous but I gotta ask...

Serama rooster + 2 standard hens?

Well, it’s official: In my little clutch of five-week-old chicks—two standard autosexed Eggers and three straight-run Seramas—all 3 Seramas are BOYS. I hadn’t planned on keeping any roosters but of course now we love them. I do plan on getting more standard-sizes hens down the road. Could I...

    Sexing Seramas—4 weeks?

Hey everyone...A week later I think the one Serama of my three I thought was a pullet is actually also a cockerel. All three Seramas have really red combs, and the two autosexed eggers have pale peach-colored combs. Very distinct difference. Thoughts? And...is there a forum here for selling...

    Sexing Seramas—4 weeks?

I think I have two cockerels (a white and a dark chipmunk) and one pullet (golden, silked). Is it too early? Am I jumping to conclusions? Also: I presume this tiny flock of two eggers (autosexed) and, if I’m correct, two Serama roosters and one Serama hen is not a viable group. I’m wondering...

My chicks are eating and covered in sanicare 😬

Also they are 3.5 weeks old, so not teeny but not grown either

My chicks are eating and covered in sanicare 😬

Was it a terrible mistake to change out the pine shavings for sanicare? they are madly dustbathing in it and pecking it off one another. I’m a little freaked.

    New chick mama anxiety dream

I had a ridiculous dream and had to share it with you people, who might relate. (preface: last week I found a paper grocery bag in a closet with enormous long trails of some plant growing out of it. I looked inside and then remembered, Oh yeah, I was trying to find a cool dark place for those...

    Mysterious chick behaviors?

There are two funny things going on in my brooder of five three-week-old chicks. I’m not worried about either but I have to know if other birds do this! 1). The smallest of the five (two eggers and three Seramas) has a thing about pecking specifically the beaks of the other birds. They don’t...

    Chick dirt question

Hi fellow chicken-lovers. I have a weird situation—all the dirt in my backyard is suspect because it was very recently covered in concrete. I’m planning on bringing in fresh topsoil but in the meantime my 3-week old chicks are begging for a dust bath. And I think I’m gonna have to buy dirt. 😂...

Temporary daytime-only “run” containment for chicks?

It’s hard to figure out isn’t it? I was not fully prepared for quite *all* the chicken expenses 😳
