Hi! We have sort of the same circumstance. We currently live in Auburn but recently bought a place in Goldendale. Our son is living there now and we plan to move in a couple years. We go over a couple times a month to work on the place. It's going to be wonderful when we finally get there. Peace...

    The Legbar Thread!

Just took this photo of a pair of two week old male chicks. One was blonde and the other dark at hatch. They are the two to the far right in the picture. The dark chick (furthest right) has much more distinct markings on his wings than the blonde one. They most likely have different mommas.

Yes, I plan to keep records. I got a trio each last March of the first three "lines" from GFF. They sent a quad each plus an extra male. They haven't been too hardy in general. I've lost three females and a male - all of different causes at different times. One group was lighter colored than the...

    The Legbar Thread!

I had a Legbar hen go broody 3+ weeks ago and let her sit on some of the eggs. She is an excellent momma. They are 4-5 days old today! Parents all directly from GFF last March. Interesting that two of the three males are so much lighter in color than the other one. My roosters all have too much...

My broody Legbar's eggs have hatched. She decided that the glass pie pan with the nummies for the babies would be a great place for a family nap!!

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

My broody Legbar's eggs have hatched. (I asked about moving her a few days ago because of a broken egg.) This morning I put a nice glass pie plate of goodies out for the babies and her. The next time I checked she had decided it was a great place for the family to take a nap! There are 5 chicks...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Thank you so much. That's what my gut was saying but the urge to give the chicks a clean bed was there, too. I will leave her alone. Edited to add: Good thing I didn't touch her. I just heard peeping in the box. It sure doesn't smell very good, though.

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have a broody Legbar who was sitting on 7 eggs. I happened to catch her this morning when she was off the nest, peeked in and now there are only 6. I assume one broke and she cleaned it up. A couple of the eggs have a bit of goo on them.. The nesting...

Wanted to say hi here. We currently live in Auburn, WA but just bought a retirement place outside of Goldendale. The house has an amazing 360 degree view and LOTS of room for critters. We plan to move in 18-24 months. Must fix up and sell this house first. Our oldest son will be living there in...

    Isbar thread

Had to share this. I was taking pictures today and this guy struck a pose and just stood there for me. He's about 11 months old. The eggs came from Mary in CA.

My homegrown babies! They are 10 days old now and were a week in the above photo. There are 6 girls and my one little man. He already looks like he's on guard!

    The Legbar Thread!

Congratulations!! I've got chicks hatching today, too. Lots of WA State Legbar babies. So far there are 4 girls and 1 boy. I only put the eggs over 45 grams in the incubator until the last day when I added a 42 gram egg. Interestingly, that was the first one to hatch. She is definitely smaller...

If you need cataract "surgery" - do it! I had cataract "surgery" three years ago. It was totally no big deal. They make your eyes numb with drops. No needles! It only takes 10 or 15 minutes. The tiny little incision was already half healed the next day when you go in for a check on things. The...

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Yes, that would work if I hadn't wanted/gotten rare chickens that nobody within hours has. I do keep an eye on CraigsList and all I see are Wanted ads for my other breeds. My last chicks I had flown out from GFF and picked them up at the airport. The Delta employees are amazing!!

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Yes, that was my point. It was totally the post office - not the labeling, packing or picking it up. The seller and the buyer can only do so much. This seller also told me that in his experience shipping here to the west coast is the worst. He had had several boxes of eggs destroyed and orders...

    Swedish Flower Hen Thread

No, not necessarily. My last shipment of eggs this past spring was a repeat purchase from a very reputable farm in the Southeast. They were packed excellently, labeled amazingly well on all sides and the top of the box AND I picked them up at my local post office. They were shipped overnight...

    The Legbar Thread!

Here is a picture of a group I got from GFF in March. The males were obvious with their white hats. They are now 6 months old and very much boys!
