They are great. I have to say that I am much less likely to ever keep a mean rooster now. At first I thought all roosters were that way and I would have to get used to it to get fertile eggs. Not now, I know better.

Do you have a suggestion of where to find hrir?
Not a ff question but a meat bird question...
Also, I posted this in a couple of other places and some people thought I was asking about the fact he had eaten. My question is about the fact he was apparently impacted. Thanks!

Hi everyone! My husband has now processed chickens twice- one earlier this week and two yesterday. He had one yesterday who had a full crop, gizzard, and intestines and also a crusty butt. The rooster had been penned and withheld food but got loose this morning. He wasn't out long enough to get...

Is anyone here in Alabama? I have a hard time finding reasonably priced grains that are non-gmo and chemcal free and was wondering if anyone knows of somewhere maybe just in Southeast where I can find such. Thanks!
I think it is this thread where someone mentioned homemade mayo a little while ago. I am curious about the risk of salmonella, etc. from raw eggs. Please educate me
So I decided to start my day old that were hatched by broodies on ff. i ferment a variet of whole grains, add in sprouted lentils and then a dry mix of fertrell pnb, fish meal, and calcium. Since the babies can't have "whole grains", I put it all into a little food processor after I mixed it up...
So not an issue for meat birds either? Since we are relatively new to chickens, trying to figure out what to cull for and what you can or can't eat out of culls. Thanks again.
Since a couple of our chickens "possibly" have favus or fowlpox, how does that affect eggs and meat? Should I be concerned about eggs and meat also if I forego natural treatment and use conventional treatment?
Thanks!
They all act fine. The broody is close to hatching her eggs so her comb is pale like our other hens have been at end of 21 days.
I googled this and fowl pox popped up. Most of the pics look way worse than mine but could this be the beginning? It doesn't seem like fowl pox causes long term...
Here she is...
This is a pic of a rooster that has a "dirty-ish" comb. I have not paid much attention to the roosters' since we don't really get close and since theirs is not noticeable but hubby informed me he has seen it on a couple of them. They are not nearly as close to the broody's...
aoxa, didn't you brine yours or at least let them rest? I think I understood they should rest in a cooler of ice for 2 days. Is that when you add other ingredients than just ice water for them to bring in?
