Thank you to everyone who posted about their experiences. We just processed our first two meat birds. We had this site open on our kindle at the processing table. All the reading and reviewing of your information and pictures helped tremendously! Thank you!:)
Not sure what is wrong with this chick. She just scoots and doesn't bear weight on her legs. Her legs are bent and don't straighten out at all. Is this splay leg? Treat with bandages? Grateful for some help. Thanks!
We started with three, and now, we realize....we need more chickens....
They are adorable.
I just started adding the shells to the Ff. I had just been putting the shells in their feed dish on top, or underneath their ff. I noticed that they would pick the ff out and leave the shells in their...
Mumsy, would you discuss the temperatures that you use as a guide? I know the thermometer on the floor of the bator will read less than the one on the top of the eggs, and both may be different from the probe. What temperature do you keep at each level? Thanks for all your help!!
Just found this thread, and I have read all the way through! I just received a shipment of eggs. They were packed very well in bubble wrap, individually, and then grouped. They were shipped from Northern California to Southern California. They were delivered yesterday (3 days after being layed)...

Has anyone ever heard of the feed store incubating eggs? Our feed store has a few big incubators and will incubate for $8/doz. Any thoughts or feedback appreciated!
Your nephew is adorable. Your photos capture his amazing spirit.
I've fallen to peer pressure and just ordered some eggs to be shipped. Have others had better experience with shipped eggs? The shipping is from Northern California to Southern California (5 hour drive).
Yes, add me to the list...
It might be too warm in your house. I had our ff bucket in our greenhouse when the weather was cold. Now, our weather is warmer and I just moved the bucket back into the garage. The ff buckets (for dog and chickens) were starting to get too fermented with the warmth of the greenhouse.
Success! Peeled perfectly! Note to self: even though the egg is cool to touch, after peeling, wait a moment before taking a bite, the yolk will still be steaming hot!!
