Hi there. I have a friend who just told me that their chickens wattles started swelling up and then exploded? I've never heard of this nor can I find any info out for them. The chicken has since passed (they culled it) but they are still clueless as to what happened. Any ideas? Thanks!
Hey all! I just had a hatch of baby sillies. One mother is white, one is blue\black. The father is a kinda red colour.
What could be babes look like when they get older?
They all look like the one in the photo.
Hey all. Hoping for some help here. My quail, my very dumb quail, were attacked through the chicken wire of their pen. They had a million other sheltered places to go in there but it seems they just took to standing still right next to the chicken wire while a raccoon put its dirty little mits...
I was out with my hens this morning and heard a big splash! I noticed it came from my one Han so I paid attention to it for a while. It's droppings are mostly completely clear water. Water and solids. But water mostly....imagine a bowl of water with a few tiny black things floating around in it...
I can't say for certain without seeing your flock, but I'm 99% sure those bald spots are from mating, seeing as you have a rooster. I have a rooster in my flock as well and not only do the hens get bald, irritated spots on their backs. But often times they are even injured to the point of me...
i was curious as to how some people heat their coops when it starts to get cold. Believe it or not, here in southern Ontario, we just got a bit of snow. AWESOME! I have about 25 chickens and they seem to sleep all over the place randomly in the coop. I was going to stick a heat lamp in there in...
hey all. I was wondering if anyone knew of any live animal auctions in Ontario. Preferably around the niagara region? And one preferably that deals in poultry.
I know one in hagersville every Friday morning during the summer and one in London every Saturday during the summer.
Both are a bit...
The floor of the coop is vinyl. It's actually two layers of vinyl. The previous owner covered up the old 70's pattern with some plain grey stick on stuff. It's super water resistant though and really easy to clean. I just run a large squeegee over the whole thing and right out the door into the...
Thanks so much eggcessive!
Would you know how long I would put the birds on Gallimycin for?
And is it still safe to eat the eggs of a chicken with a respiratory virus?
I'm not entirely sure, but I think that may be the chicks equivalent to an umbilical chord. Don't pull it off. It's most likely attached to its underside. I hatched a chick a few months ago, we went through the same process of helping to remove the egg and it had the same thing. It also took the...
I wanted to post some pictures of our newly renovated coop, I hope this is the spot!
We took an old prowler camper trailer from the 70's and reworked the inside to make a lovely home for our hens. It ended up being a lot cheaper in the long run than building something from scratch. We painted...
Recently one of my hens had a runny nose. I quarantined it, put it on Gallimycin for 5 days( what the farm store person told me to do) waited two more days and reintroduced her to my flock. Her nose didn't seem too runny at this point. I went out there tonight and now almost all of my hens have...
Hey all,
I have a question. I've self diagnosed some of my hens and chicks with Coccidia. Fluffed up feathers, the odd bloody stool and constant weird foamy orange/yellow poop or diarrhoea. Not all of them have this but some definitely do. It started in the larger hens after it appeared in...
hey all,
I have a problem.
My hens seem to prefer to sleep outside. I have a wonderful coop for them but they always seem to roost on top of the coop instead of inside. I have plans to fix this, but in the meantime one of my birds has got a runny nose. I assume due to the lack of shelter...
hey! We just went to a live animal auction to waste the Saturday away and my daughter (sweet 5 year old Ivy Rae) begged me to put a bid in on some small chicks near the end of the day. 6 birds 2 bucks a piece. The guy said they were barred rock. However they are all different looking. They seem...
My wife and I have a small hobby farm in southern Ontario And have about 30 hens, all different breeds. We've posted on here a few times before asking questions but have never said hello. So. Hello! We are looking forward to becoming part of the community. So far this site has been incredibly...
i was wondering if anyone could help me I am having trouble Locating some ivermectin pour on in Ontario. I've looked at all the local farm shops and I've found nothing. Would love to try this on my birds to help with mites, lice and worms. I've tried everything else and they keep coming back...
