I need to find a local feed mill. I pay about $16 for 50 lbs and thought that was good.

I buy 50# bags of Southern States at Agway in Clarks Summit. I think possibly Dana's Hardware in Tunkhannock or the Agway in Tunkhannock have it and there is a place in Dallas, I think it is called Hoofs and Paws. I can check with a friend, she is chickenless this year, but she lives out that...

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

It may sound silly, but a big part of the reason I got chickens is to watch them, I enjoy it and find it relaxing. Where I put my coop and run was largely decided by where I could see it from my kitchen window. I will enjoy the eggs and maybe the meat, I will definitely enjoy the entertainment.

Hi and welcome to BYC. I'm a Pennsylvania girl too, Lackawana County. There is a thread called Pennsylvania Unite that you should check out also :) What kind of chicks did you get?

Thank you, that was helpful. I guess I will just have to be patient and try to enjoy them while I wait to see who is what.

That makes me feel a little better. Hopefully at least 3 of the roosters will become aggravating and then I wont feel so bad about getting rid of them!

Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I really enjoyed looking at all the beautiful orpingtons. I ended up with some - hatchery stock. They weren't what I originally wanted, but I have slowly fallen in love with the breed.

Going by that picture I have 4 roosters and 2 pullets, just not the ones I originally thought were. Kind of a bummer because the roosters have better personalities!

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

I know this isn't technically the right forum or thread, I should probably be on the gender/breed forum, but I really would rather post here to the OT, I hope no one minds. The last time I posted in that forum I got tons of responses, most of them from fairly new chicken owners. I should warn I...

I know this isn't technically the right forum or thread, I should probably be on the gender/breed forum, but I really would rather post here to a smaller group, I hope no one minds. The last time I posted in that forum I got tons of responses, most of them from fairly new chicken owners. I...

Sounds like a wonderful plan, an excuse to enjoy my coffee and watch my chickens! Even though I might have to sit on a ladder to get a good view of the nestboxes, I think I would still enjoy it and my OCD part would love having that extra info!

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

I'm a newcomer. I have hatchery stock. My RIR are small compared to the Buff Orpington's I have and the Golden Comet that was given to me (a sex link I think). That being said, they are the flightiest birds I have, don't know if it is the size or personality, but they were the first escaping...

I'd rather risk looking stupid than not ask, so what is curcurbits and how do you make Black Walnut tea?

Poultry Processing in Northeastern PA ?

So you were able to make an appointment and take your chickens over. My inlaws live in Hughesville so it would be a good option for me.
