After 3 weeks of trying to heal the slipped tendon he still couldn’t bear weight and was in pain. (After a week in the sling he bore weight for 24 hours but has been limping ever since). I tried just keeping it taped up thinking eventually it would heal but no such luck. He hasn’t been growing...
I do have some hibiclens I could use as well iodine or chlorhexidine to clean. Left a couple holes open to drain that could be used for more saline lavage too.
The wound does seem to be weeping a little bit, not unexpected.
Alright, grew up and did what’s right by my gal. Pulled the feathers, removed feathers from inside the wound. Lavaged with saline, then cleaned and debrided some more, lavaged with hydrogen peroxide diluted with saline. Cleaned some more. Filled wound with triple antibiotic ointment and stuffed...
You can see the feathers still in the wound.I think I'm just going to have to pull all of the feathers around it and get another q-tip and keep trying to get the feather out so the wound is cleaner if I have any hope of it closing. I'm not sure what organ that is either.
My 7 month old Americauna pullet was attacked by a dog this morning. I saw it happen and was able to chase the dog off immediately but couldn't find the chicken to treat her, she hid in the underbrush. Had to wait until she went into the coop this evening. The skin and peritoneum were torn...
Yeah, that’s Lacey, one of my sizzles or satins whatever you want to call them. She’s got her wing expanded so she’s really showing off her curls there. But she really is super curly. I’ve got a black that’s that curly too (the feathers are soft & supple). My third sizzle isn’t quite as frilly...
Baby chick is bearing weight again! Fingers crossed the tendon stays put. He’s a little unsteady after a week of not walking but so far so good. No painful cries, no swelling.
Shari shipped mine from CA to the farthest recesses of WA. Granted not as far. My eggs were in great shape. Lost 2 for sure to shipping crack, & aircell.Fertility was low this time of year though. However, I️ will say I️ ordered a dozen eggs & got 13 chicks!!!
Shari is very helpful that way. She has a lot of info and I️ love picking her brain on the finer details. I️ refer to her about the deeper questions. These simple details are easy about the basic genetics of silkies and sizzles are all over the Internet and easy to access. I️ bought my eggs from...
Glad to hear it worked! Gives me hope! Fingers crossed. 3 days with leg wrapped, in chicken sling with daily epsom salt baths. Seems to be in less pain and not as swollen. Hope we get lucky like you. Keep seeing people say it rarely works. Thanks for posting your success.
So glad the tendons healed, i’ve Got a 2week old chick with a slipped tendon too. 3 days in a chicken chair now. Fingers crossed. Was nice to see it can work. Gives me heart!
Finally resting comfortably! Poor little baby chick. When I checked on it this morning this chick was in SO much pain. I picked him up and he settled into my hand and fell asleep almost immediately, he was just exhausted. While sleeping, every breath he made a painful little noise. It just broke...
If you are after the silkie feathering, ask the breeder if they raise Frizzles. A lot of good breeders may have pens that carry just silkie feathering without the cross and will keep these separate from their Satins.
The Satins/Sizzles are bred to the silkie standard. (Black skin, walnut comb, 5 toes, etc.) They technically are part or mostly silkie, they just have a few genes different. The Frilkies are shown as Silkies. It's like a blonde kid or a blonde kid with curls. The Frilkies are shown as Silkies...
