    Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

I am having the same kind of week! I lost 5 baby ducklings, and one turkey poult, as well as a full grown Egyptian goose (one of only 2 I had). My brother reports it was a crow one time, and a hawk another time, and I'm not even sure what could have gotten the Egyptian, but I doubt it was a...

    Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Reece the Terrible (hatched 3/24) was released into the general population this week! Of course, we have them in a warm bird house at night. But Reece and his two Swedish friends are now running around the yard with the 100+ other birds in the acreage. It seems as though he's taken to the...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

The multi-color has a straight beak, I would say. There may be a tiny, barely imperceptible bump at the black stripe, but it's so small I'd go with "straight" rather than bumpy.

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

It would be nice to get a spotted. All of my birds are either all white or gray toulouse-colored, with the exception of the light gray african-embden male. I did get one embden recently that has a few spots on her, so I guess there's a 1/23 chance that this one is from the female with spots.

left gosling is 12 days old, right gosling (with black on top of bill) is 10 days old. Their eyes are not blue, but they're not very dark, either. I have the following females: Embden, Embden/Chinese, Toulouse, Toulouse/Chinese And the following males: Embden, Embden/Chinese...

The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

Crazy mama came out today to show off her one and only duckling, and she's being a wonderful mama. Got some breakfast, went for a swim, then walked and foraged in the sunshiny grass and daisy fields. Here she is (rouen) with her current (muscovy) boyfriend, and her (khaki/cayuga) foster baby...

So here are my latest two little girls (vent sexed). Hoping to get a guess as to possible breed combo. See my signature line for the geese I have for possible combos. In this pic, girl on left is 12 days old, the one on the right with the black stripe on top of her bill is 10 days old...

The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

We'll find out today. She just hatched it yesterday and I found it carefully covered up and snuggled in the nest, just dried out, at dinnertime when mama was off eating. Very much hoping she takes care of it. She seems to live to be a mama, and I recall her last year's babies being an...

The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

For some reason, her batch of eggs failed, so I "borrowed" a few from another mom, which also failed. Finally, I candled one that was about to externally pip and put it under her. Hatched within 2 days. Had to get her off that nest somehow as she wasn't going to just leave it.

The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

After 50+ days of sitting on her nest, crazy mama finally hatched one duckling from the second batch of loaner eggs! Hopefully now she'll leave the nest and turn her attentions to her new foster baby, a cayuga/khaki mix. Hope rouens don't care about color!
