Piped on lockdown day on the wrong end!

Have a black call duck hen, every single one of her eggs pip at the small end. 1st dozen I didn't intervene and lost them all, next batcb I set, intervened and helped them hatch. Dozens of the other duck eggs hatched normally, but this one hen all her eggs pip on the small end. She lays green...

    Ping Pong Sized Egg

My 9 month old dewlap/embden cross goose laid her 4th egg since the 1st one on 2-14 today, it is a ping-pong ball size little round egg. She gets 16% protein layer pellets free choice, plus has free range of the yard during the day, lots of green grass/ weeds to graze. Was surprised she started...

    Heat lamp vs electric brooder

I prefer a small heatlamp, the electic brooders for a few birds are very small and chicks have to come out from under it into the cold to eat and drink. Also, it's unnaturally dark under the brooders and in my opinion hinders the growth and vitality of the chicks. After losing several home...

    Calibrating Thermometer

How I make sure my thermometers are reading correct, just put it up on the A/C thermostat to see how close it reads. This one is right on the money, but usually about 1 in 5 is way off. Years and years this has worked for me.

Should our ducks take a break from laying eggs

If by not fully formed you mean soft shell, then feed them a calcium fortified feed.

    White star ducks

White Stars are excellent layers with calmer dispositions than campbells. I hear this "birds bred to be egg layers that it's hard on them, laying and egg a day takes to much out of them and shortens their lifespan" My take on that is these egg laying breeds are the luckiest because nobody...

    Aggressive rooster

I have always had zero fear of domestic birds of any kind so am always the guy to take care of a mean rooster or gander. Usually, knocking them into the middle of next week with a shovel or something they won't mess with you again, if they do then get rid of thdm. A child old enough to go...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Well my Leghorns are gonna be treated like royalty as long as they live and will even when they quit laying they will be taken well care of. Have a leghorn rooster from the March chicks and ordered 15 more leghorn chicks from Strombergs in Sept that are 1/2 grown now, so with the rooster will...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

On March 25th received 3 Wyandotte and 3 Sulmtaler day old hen chicks from Greenfirefarms, on the way home stopped and got 2 Leghorn hen chicks from Tractor supply, the leghorn hens started laying in August, the others a month later. Show me your pictures of you mixed / crossed breed Geese please

Father is buff dewlap toulouse, mom is white embden. The gander is white/ goose buff, the goose is nearly indistinguishable from a purebred dewlap, her dewlap is larger than it appears in photo. Wondering if breeding this pair would possibly produce white dewlap geese. I'v noticed from past...

Why does my silver appleyard duckling have a brown stripe instead of black?

Recently hatched Silver Appleyard ducklings from eggs I purchased on ebay, the two that hatched were exactly the same color as the ones in your photo. The darker one is a hen and the browner colored striped on is a drake on these two birds that I have.

Dark phase silver appleyard ducklings? Or rouens?

Back when Holderread's sold Silver Appleyards, there was no such thing as a dark faze bird, but you could occasionally get a pure white duckling from Appleyard stock. Dave Holderread used to sell the white ones that were culls from his Appleyard breeders.

Dark phase silver appleyard ducklings? Or rouens?

Know this thread is a few years old, but I recently had the same experience with the Metzer Farms Appleyards. Ordered 10 straight run Appleyards and 2 of them looked like Rouen colored, and actually I even thought they looked like a Muscovy/Rouen cross, complained to Metzer's and got a refund...

    Silver appleyard genetics? Breed standard?

I purchased Appleyards directly from Holderread's Oregon farm 20 years ago. The drake in the middle of your picture is correctly colored.

    Exhibition Rouen Ducks

Sandhill Preservation Center rouen ducks appear to be a bit off-colored, as the white on the wings of rouen hens in photo on their website would be a disadvantage for a show bird. Duck Creek Poultry Place in Indiana has exhibition rouen eggs for sale in the spring, and sometimes ducklings for...
