I'm guessing there's a much higher chance of getting White Wheatens in your F2s than my Lavender Wheaten project (6%), since you're working with dominant white? What is the percentage you are expecting?
I'll be setting my first hatch using morbius' males this Saturday. Unfortunately, one of my hens was out of commission this week with a prolapsed vent. She has recovered and is on calcium supplements, so I'm hoping she starts laying again next week.
Now that my Lav Ams are laying too, I'll...
This is definitely something that GCM breeders need to figure out. Golden Cuckoo will never get accepted as a standard color if there is no standard. I believe many breeders on this page are working on ER based bird (ie: BCM based cuckoos). However, I know a lot of GCMs are also e+ based, and...
Golden Cuckoo Marans breed true. However, if you think you have lemon cuckoo hens, those won't breed true with a Golden Cuckoo rooster. Could you post pics?
I just sent my "keepers" from my first hatch out to the porch brooder today, actually. They're two weeks old. We'll see how they like it.... Once it really starts warming up, they go outside between 3-7 days old.
I'm going to check fertility in my girls' eggs when I make breakfast tomorrow! Can't wait till they're clear so I can put your boys with them... My son is so excited, he wants to get going on incubating!! :)
Hatched my first LAVENDER WHEATEN last week!! So excited about this project. Hoping to hatch 8-10 this year (which means hatching 100-150 F1 eggs!) and select the best for breeding next year. I'll also be starting a completely unrelated line this year. :)
It was 3.5 hours each way. I left right after kids went to school and got home right before they got out.
Longest I've driven was for hatching eggs: 6 hours each way. Although, I had a pit stop to go skydiving with my sis in law half way...
A HUGE thanks to morbius18 for the males he gave me today! Totally worth the drive! Plus, now I can say I've been to Tennessee... ;)
So, according to the chicken calculator, if I cross his F1 males with my GCM girls, I'll get 25% non-barred pullets, 25% GCM pullets, 25% single barred males and...
...:(
So I'm now in the market for an adult/juvie male, or possibly hatching eggs. Anyone in NC or the Southeast have a spare male for sale??
Also, I *really* don't like bad-mouthing folks, but I do want to warn everyone that of the GCMs I got from a farm in VA two had yellow skin and at least...
I contacted them about their Ameraucanas last year. Long story short: they do not have standard Ameraucanas, they have Easter Eggers. This would make me skeptical of the quality of the rest of their breeds as well. However, if you're just looking for an assortment of laying hens, they seem like...
Those that are NPIP:
How long does it typically take to get your results? I've got my appointment on the 1st and I'm planning to hatch chicks on the 10th. It would be nice to sell them as NPIP certified...
Yep, sure it was a crow. In fact, she's been crowing for at least two months now. Even back when she was laying eggs.
I know there was no way it was it was another pullet that laid the egg. Their coop was 40 feet away from any other coop, and I don't free-range my chickens (due to a high hawk...
