It seems that microplastics have pervaded every environmental niche. I don't think it's likely that there's any meat (or any food, really) that's free of microplastic contamination at this point, but it probably varies and the plastic pollution in the ocean seems pretty severe.
The extent of plastic use in food packaging is really bothersome. And the majority of the plastic fragments found in brains in the 2024 study were polyethylene, which happens to be what modern water pipes are made out of. I wish it were realistically possible to avoid exposure and...
I'm definitely not a fan of how some forums automatically lock old threads, like if they haven't received a reply in several months. And I've been on forums where people are chided for not reading X, Y, or Z or searching old posts for solutions before resorting to posting a question, and that...
Yes. I saw a video where he had gained access to a scammer's webcam and talked to the scammer on the phone, and said something like "I can see you scamming with your shirt off." It was really funny.
I wish I didn't feel bitterly envious of people who can be liked for who they are. I guess the feeling comes in waves, like if I think about certain things.
I wish I hadn't declined physically and mentally. I've also felt worried about the possibility that microplastics have caused some sort of deleterious effect on my subjective experience. And head impacts.
Mine is the same, with a regular rear camera and a wide-angle one. I've thought before that it'd be cool to have the telephoto camera, but the pro models are significantly more expensive.
No, I just used my phone camera (a Pixel 7). The wolf spiders get fairly large, and I zoomed in 2x. I think with 2x zoom there isn't much of a loss of image quality, since the camera sensor is 50mp but saved images are always 12.5mp.
A picture I took of a wolf spider last month. I thought this one was cool since the front eyes are in focus.
I also saw a tarantula outside several days ago (a female Aphonopelma iodius, I think), which was cool. I hadn't seen one since August 2023, and I think I had only seen males...
I think the ability of the average college student/graduate has declined over time, as standards have lapsed and degrees have become necessary to get hired for many jobs that didn't previously require them (and that often aren't even related to the topic of the degree).
I retook this: https://openpsychometrics.org/tests/IPIP-BFFM/
It seems to have changed somewhat from last time, when I scored low for both openness and agreeableness. I got very high openness several years ago, but later felt that it was inaccurate.
Not a very high score it seems. Some of the items seemed weird.
This is probably a better test, though even professionally developed personality tests often don't have great validity.
I've recently felt deeply upset about microplastics. I heard about a recent study that estimated their prevalence in the brain at something like 0.5 percent by weight, a significant increase from 2016, and not related to age at death IIRC. It makes me feel pretty disturbed and dehumanized. I...
