Thank you for the info. I wish I could do it, and I may eventually. I think for now I may look into a butcher to send them to and see if I can go through with it. I rehommed one last week and I was all sad about that, and that guys has a good life still! LOL I'm just not tough enough. But I am...
Ok question for all you "mutt lovers". I loved letting my flock do all the work with breeding, hatching and raising their own chickens. Its so awesome. My problem is once the offspring are old and ROOSTERS is where my problems are starting. I just don't have enough room or hens for that many...
Ah. I love my roosters but....
I started out with 12 chickens, ended up with 9 hens and 3 roos. They will be a year in April. The three have gotten along famously but I have read about that could end up changing as they age.. They have a well defined pecking order. The top is my beautiful...
Great thread. I was wondering about this being is so much easier for my broodys to raise chicks than doing it myself. I have two broodys right now, a silkie and a japanese black tail. They both started about a week ago. They are great mommas and want to have babies ALL the time. I think I am...
Okay, this pics look similar to my frizzle that appears to be red and inflammed. Please take a look at my pictures and let me know if anyone has seen this and has ideas. We just gave him a warm bath and lathered bacitracin on his red spots. He is a 9 month old bantam cochin frizzle, has always...
Fun thread. My japanese bantam hatched her first set of chicks a month ago. It is so much fun looking at the chicks as they grow and seeing how interesting there coloring is. I am loving the backyard mutts! I have 3 roosters and 8 hens. My first set of chicks was from 5 different mommas. Funny...
chickydee64 and bumpercarr, thank you for your input. That was exactly what I was thinking, but just wanted to get advice from experiance chicken grandmas (lol). Thank you!!
Again, this is such a good an informational thread and I just want to say thank you everyone who has experience and post to help us inexperienced out! I now have 4 babies, one delayed hatching until yesterday (three days later!) Momma has been doing so good. I have a friend who keeps telling me...
Still only 3 chicks. They are just adorable. Momma has left the unhatched eggs to teach the chicks to eat and drink, but then promptly returns to the unhatched eggs. I am giving it a few more days and then will take those eggs and see whats up. One more video for those who are interested.
MEMama3, haven't seen any heads this am yet, but heard there chirping. There was 3 eggs left last night unhatched. We will see what today brings. Its still pretty cold out this am, so crossing my fingers for a better view in a while...I'll keep this updated!
Quick question, how long from hatch until my mamma decides its time to take her new little ones to get food/water? I read it could take a few days. Truth to that? Also, once she is ready to take them to get water I need to put a flat surface for her to nest in. She is now in a tupperward basin...
My Juliet has hatchlings! She is only 7 mo old herself, so far doing great as a first time momma! I have seen 3 heads peck out so far. Anxiously awaiting...
Thank you guys so much!! You are really awesome. I could only find one tums in my entire house. 500mg- crushed it and gave in some warm oatmeal. She loved it. When I went out there I found a white membrane by her poop. She seems more like her normal self and actually perked up with the oatmeal...
