    Drainage in the Run

I agree pictures and more information would be good but if you do decide to go with drainage pipe be sure to have stone in the trench to cover the pipe to keep it from clogging.

Chicken jail for egg-eater: parole or life sentence?

I had used a ceramic egg in the nest to get an egg eater to stop. I would remove the egg they laid quickly but leave the ceramic. When they try to eat it they cannot break the shell and stop trying. I do not know if it would work for you hen but the two times I had an issue it did solve the...

    Frustrated with new hens

Thanks for the response. as I said to ChickenCanoe, I know the production will be reduced without lighting. I built the coop with insulation on all six sides, surprisingly it has been stayed above freezing on the nights it got down into the upper teens. And yes it dose have good ventilation...

    Frustrated with new hens

Thanks for the science part of it. I know I could add light but This is a new home, when built the coop I chose not to put power understanding the production would be down. This is more of a rant than anything else.

    Frustrated with new hens

I am becoming frustrated with these hens. I have 12 that are 6 months and have been getting one egg a day for the past 3 weeks. one day I had 2. It only appears 3 of the hens are laying, because the others combs are still pale. I forgot to mention for a couple of days they were flying over...

Be sure to measure the panels you have to confirm the strip you get fits the gaps, they do make different sizes.

Covering gaps in chicken coop roof

They make strip that closes the gap in corrugated steel roofing. This is a picture and a like to a description at Lowes.com http://www.lowes.com/pd_102670-1115-2216___?productId=3005549&pl=1&Ntt=roof+panel+closeure+strip

    fly

This is true as a general rule but not always. I have production reds and three of the hens where flying over a six foot fence and laying regularly somewhere. I had to to increase the fence to eight feet to prevent them from flying out. I do not clip because I do let they out to free range...

    Fox Vs. Fowl, Battle Royale

I understand you response of see a threat and eliminate it, but this approach requires an attack and potential loss before you can eliminate the threat. By increasing the defenses with one or more of the options that have been given you remove the food supply and the predators move on. When I...

    What is this?

Very good point, without a complete picture we are only making a guess at the breed and by no means a positive identification.

    Fox Vs. Fowl, Battle Royale

I agree with LeafBlade12345's suggestion about electric fence to deter further attacks. I have a large run without a cove so I use electric fence to keep out predators. I recommend a minimum of 4 strands, one 3 inches from the bottom to prevent digging, one at 24 and 36 inches to prevent...
