    6yo Maran scratching, missing feathers

I appreciate your honesty... its hard for sure. Ruby is a sweetheart and so, so gentle. She loves to hop up gently on my 3yos lap and will just sit there :) I feel good in that we had her at the vet a few weeks ago, and tried the spray, had some basic testing done. And, we were able to...

    6yo Maran scratching, missing feathers

Okay, I once again need some advice on my Ruby girl. She is still loosing feathers, and picking/scratching at herself. We had been treating her with the cortizone spray, but it seemed to make her more irritated, so we stopped applying. She is definitely loosing more weight, as her breastbone...

Suggestions on what to do with our Run!!

Our gutter isn't clogged, but we do have a french drain beneath the run that has been causing us some issues (it gets clogged from time to time). We do have most of the water though directed away from the house (after flooding issues back in 2013).

Suggestions on what to do with our Run!!

Okay, here is a picture of our very messy run! My husband is going to dig out the french drain this week, which is why there is a muddy puddle there. It isn't draining properly because its probably clogged. But, the ground is rock hard and I don't know that the deep liter method would work. This...

Suggestions on what to do with our Run!!

So, we are kind of inbetween flocks, as we have 2 of our 7 year old birds left (of the original 8), and have 2 new ones we adopted last year that are a year old. We want to add some more soon, so I figured its time to get the coop and run cleaned/fixed up. Our coop is about 5x5, and we use...

    6yo Maran scratching, missing feathers

I just wanted to post an update, as we took Ruby to the vet today to just get another set of eyes on her. Vet agreed that she does not have lice or mites, and also does not have any internal parasites. She is on the lighter side, so he wants us to weigh her again in a couple weeks to see...

    6yo Maran scratching, missing feathers

Our plan for right now is to have hubby pick up some No peck stuff later today... we will put some on her tonight, or in the morning depending on the time. Tomorrow we will clean out the coop again and put more DE down. I have a vet visit scheduled for Thursday. Not sure if he is going to...

    6yo Maran scratching, missing feathers

Okay, I'll go cut stuff off and will bring out a wipe to clean her up again... Alot of her feathers are breaking, like right now, she has two feathers hanging off that are broken. Not sure if that means anything. And, she has these bluish (bloody under skin?) looking spots. You might be able to...

    6yo Maran scratching, missing feathers

Okay, here are some pictures.... I don't want to do anything crazy without any input. I also have a call into the vet. Her vent was not looking nearly this bad last week... I had wiped her clean last Friday as she seemed a little crusty, but its looking kind of crusty around there. As I...

    6yo Maran scratching, missing feathers

I'm very concerned about my 6 year old Ruby girl!! I noticed she was missing some feathers about 6 weeks ago, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I thought she might be molting? Then, we were gone for a few weeks, and came home to even more missing feathers, and very bumbly looking...

Suddenly sick 5mo French Maran,Please help!!

Yeah, we tried an Epsom bath yesterday, and tried to get her to eat. I did get a teensy bit of yogurt in her, and a little bit of water through a dropper. Its just crazy, as she appeared to be fine the day before. I had them out with me in the garden and they were all running around, seemingly...

Suddenly sick 5mo French Maran,Please help!!

Well, they were vaccinated according to the little farm we got them from. And, our others that have died have all died over the course of the past 3 years. We didn't have a sudden case of loosing chickens. Our first chicken we lost was 3yo, and pretty much every 6 months, we have lost another...

Suddenly sick 5mo French Maran,Please help!!

Thank you! Yeah, out of our original flock of 8, we are down to the last 2.. they are 6 years old :) One, our Easter egger, still legs 3-4 eggs a week. Anyway, each of the chickens we have lost so far had a totally different end. So, we are learning. This was hard, as this one was so young, and...

Suddenly sick 5mo French Maran,Please help!!

I didn't hear from anyone on this, but wanted to put an update here. We ended up taking her into the vet tonight and put her to sleep. She was just going downhill super fast.. I'm sure she would have died during the night, but I wanted to see if we could do anything for her. The vet said that...

Suddenly sick 5mo French Maran,Please help!!

I wanted to add that we just took a look at her legs, and nothing appears to be injured... she just seems super weak. Trying to get some water and yogurt into her, but no go so far.

Suddenly sick 5mo French Maran,Please help!!

HI all, We got 4 new pullets about 6 weeks ago, and 1 of them suddenly seems like she is on death's door today. She was fine yesterday, as far as we could tell. Then a couple hours ago, she didn't come out of the coop, and I just got home to check her out. She hasn't laid yet, and is a...
