Congrats Glenn on your chicks! Looks like you have your incubator figured out.....except don't open it for long when removing a new hatchling if more are due to hatch....got to do it real quick or the humidity drops too much.
Let me know when you're ready for a few Serama chicks.
LAUREL’s HAPPY HENS is offering:
American Lavender Orpington Chicks for sale at $15.00 per chick
9 chicks available from my first hatch of my stock this year. They hatched 4/18/14 and are straight run (unsexed - you could very well end up with a rooster as easily as pullet/hen). They are...
Hi - I use 1588's too and love them. I bought a still air to use as a hatcher but because the temp is not preset and can change due the surrounding temps I didn't trust it- some days it was just right at 102 (the temp for still airs) and other days it would shoot up and I kept it in a room with...
I am in VC too. No problem with squirrels, but I left the bucket of eggs out yesterday ...got sidetracked ...and when I went back out there were eggs broken and on the ground I thought what in the heck.....well it was the crows!!! They had themselves quite a nice lunch!! I won't forget the...
I just had a lavender Orpington stay broody for two months. Every chicken is different. Being broody is perfectly natural and I don't discourage it as it what their body is telling them to do.
If people don't want hens to go broody then they need to buy breeds that rarely go broody such as a...
I am incubating chicken eggs. I have been hatching for years and find this is what works for me. I use a hova bator 1588 which has a preset temp of 99.5 and I control the humidity. I candle at 10 days and day 18. If the humidity has been correct then there is a decent size air sac for the...
I just buy the basic sand at Home Depot and mix food grade diatomaceous earth. The DE helps kill any lice or mites. The chicken are and so am I!
I am sure others put other things in it - I just keep it easy and simple.
During the first 18 days you need the humidity between 45-55% and raise it to 55-65% the last 3-4 days. The only way to accomplish this is to have water in the incubator.
Raise the humidity in your hatcher and maybe you'll get lucky and some chicks will hatch or you may loose the whole hatch...
She is broody. It is a natural state. She will get out on her own and feed, water and go to bathroom daily. Broodiness can last a couple months. You might want to give her some fertile eggs to hatch or just wait it out and she will start to lay again in 2 to 3 months.
Hi - I am looking for a few quality silkie chicks. I really like blue but I am not too picky.
Does anyone have chicks or even fertile eggs for sale locally?
Thank you.
