My chickens wouldn't come out of their laying boxes this morning and now I know why. I thought there had been an animal in the yard and they were afraid to come out and roam around like they normally do. They are now out playing in the dirt and eating bugs. Really weird. I'll make sure to...

Thanks Adele!
Sorry for the delayed response-last week was so crazy for me-12 hour days
I got six chicks and she offered an extra but I figured six would be plenty for me. They are very pretty chicks and at two weeks, you can already tell who the little roos are.
I wasn't really...
I teach Kindergarten and have had some very unique names come through my classroom and our school. We live close to Hollywood so unique names are not so unique anymore.

Yeah, Donna's getting famous! I think my hens from her might be laying soon. Their combs are getting bigger and red all of the sudden. Donna not only has the best Marans around she also is the nicest seller to deal with. Good luck to all of you who are hatching right now. Please post pics.
Yeah!! You did it!! Wow! That's a lot of driving in a short amount of time. Your baby looks just like mine did when I got mine from Bayhorsebonne. We are relatives, so to speak.
My girls are turning into the most beautiful birds. They are so healthy and energetic. Keep posting picks as...

Hi Drom,
Here are some updated photos of my Bayhorsebonne babies. Well, they're not babies anymore and should be laying next month. I can't wait to post pictures of my first egg.
You are going to be so happy with your Marans.
Have fun with your babies when you get them!!
From what I've read, house flys can't lay their larva, or they don't survive, where BSF have layed their eggs. So I see them as being beneficial and keeping disease carrying fly larva out of my compost.
I too have BSF larva in my composters and noticed that my chickens are always hanging out underneath my two composters. I thought it was for the shade but have now figured out that they are waiting for some of the larva to crawl out of the air holes and fall to the ground. Too cool. They use...
