Question about adding more ducks to our flock.

Thank you for the input all! It's good to hear things wouldn't be upset too much with the introduction of a few females. I have my heart set on a Cayuga, and my daughter on a Swedish Blue (she really, really wants a Muscovy but we can't find them sexed anywhere and don't want to risk a male)...

Question about adding more ducks to our flock.

Might as well share a pic of them all :-) They had just gotten done eating the weeds on the patio and Rhett noticed his reflection in the window. So they all visited with 3 new ducks lol. I should mention wild ducks fly into our yard to visit once in a while, and Rhett is the only one which is...

Question about adding more ducks to our flock.

This Spring will be 2 years since our beloved duck Duke was dumped at our creek along with her sister (who was too sick to make it), and we took her in and fell in love. Shortly after Duke arrived in our home we brought in 2 ducklings who someone who lived in an apartment had bought and...

Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

I'm sure we'll be okay. She knew about them before they got set up there and I've known her since I was a child (the joys of buying your childhood home). It's just that if she ever did we'd have to go through all the work of pulling the house off its base for less than 2 feet! :-)

How much heat do ducks need?

Wow! We luckily don't get that cold. We might drop below 20 at night in an especially cold winter, but our coldest temps are mostly around 30-40 in the day, and 20-30 at night.

How much heat do ducks need?

We have their water inside the house...I'm really hoping it doesn't get that cold inside the house.

Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

I'm hoping our neighbor doesn't complain. According to county code we're 1.5 feet too close to her fence, but it would have been soooo much work to move the playhouse. She knows they are there though and hasn't complained yet.

Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

I think it might last. It is mostly crab grass and clover, and has been growing in the yard for at least 30 years. But, you can see some spots where it's worn out. That's where we walk. If it starts to get thin we'll seed it. I love their house too, it was my childhood playhouse. We almost...

Forgot to add a pic of their new home! No pool in it in this pic, but they have a small one in the corner where they are all standing.

How much heat do ducks need?

That's a good point. We give ours food and water at all times too. I've been so worried about the ducks themselves I didn't think of their water freezing.

How much heat do ducks need?

We've made sure there is ventilation in the house. We have a small greenhouse type fan in the wall that acts as a cooler in the Summer and a vent when not in use. They sleep in a corner under one of the windows and that's the one that fogs up. I do notice the house is quite a bit warmer than...

How much heat do ducks need?

Our ducks were inside most of their young life, but have since been put outside. It's starting to really get cold, we're supposed to dip below freezing for the first time tonight. Their house seems to stay warm (they even fog up the windows), but I am concerned about them. I've seen people say...

Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

Wow, it's been a long time! Our ducks are great, and doing quite well. Duke keeps us stocked up with eggs, often laying two a day. We've been giving them away we have so many! We had to add some oyster shells as treats to her diet because she was laying the occassional "rubber egg", but just a...

Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

Oh and, my daughter rigged them up a shower the other day, they were in love :-D Especially Duke! Even with them being housed outside now they still get drug into the house and front yard to be played with, and I'm so happy about that! (I'll have to get you guys some pics of their new home.)

Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

Hi all! It's been a while! We've been so busy lately! DuckyGaze, I'm sorry to hear about your goslings, but so glad mamma goose made it back home! So, we're pretty sure both the babies are male. The brown one definitely is, and he's also likely a Rouen. We've been looking at their juvenile...

Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

So I'm thinking these aren't both Khaki Campbells :-) The brown one is a boy and is starting to get his green head feathers and grey wings. My daughter thinks he's a Rouen, but I've told her you all think he's a Khaki lol As for the other, she reminds me so much of an Indian Runner, but the...

That pen is great! What a great idea, and so nice of him to build it for you. I took some new pics last night, and then looked back at the ones only a week ago. They change so much so quickly! Next on our list is new carpet for my daughter's room. ;-)

They're all so cute and tiny! I love the grey/silver and black ones, are those the geese?

Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

The humans :-/ There's a couple flu bugs in our area, and strep is going around. We've been too sick to work on the pen. I'm almost sad they'll be moving outside. They are noisy, and messy, but we love hanging out with them! How old are yours?
