    Mites or Lice?

Okay thanks. I guess I need to grab another 3-4 bales of shavings. I should be able to start treatment of the birds tomorrow, but the coop will have to wait until Sunday when my husband is home and can run the tractor to move the bedding. Each coop is at least 10’x6’ and has at least 6” of...

    Mites or Lice?

No, not really. But, again, I couldn’t even tell this was a bug until I zoomed in on it. I tried looking around the vents and ar the base of the tail. I couldn’t really see anything, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything there. Okay, is it the same treatment for both or do I need to use...

    Mites or Lice?

Mites? Lice? Any idea what it is? I have two coops. I thought my laying hens might have mites due to some suddenly missing feathers at the base of the tail (no rooster). However, looking them over I couldn’t directly see any issues other than the missing feathers. I figured I would check the...

Poop question (do I need to worry?)

Tonight she pooped what essentially just looked like water. She’s still acting and looking normal. She’s only had crumbles and water. At least one other had poop that was wet-ish, but looked pretty normal, nothing like this. Should I worm them? Corrid? It seems like something is up, but I...

Poop question (do I need to worry?)

I have not seen poop like this before. Do I need to worry? This is from a 2ish month old Silkie. It has been warm. She’s only been eating crumbles and some meal worms. She is acting and looks normal. Pics of poop below!

    Vermont

All of the Silkies I got this year turned out to be roosters. I really want some hens, but I’m concerned that it may be too late this year to start over with chicks (?). I don’t have an incubator or a broody hen, so hatching eggs are out. I’m in Central Vermont. Anyone have suggestions on...

    Clean legged bantam breed?

I looked as close as I can (lots of wiggling). It’s definitely not a single comb, so I guess it’s probably a rose comb. We will go with funny looking Sebright or mixed Seabright and ??

In the last few days there’s suddenly been color coming through. We are at a little over 7 weeks.

Show off your Old English Game Bantams!!

It looks like I have two silver duckwing OEGB. Someone said the dark one is also an OEGB, but I have no clue. It was originally the smallest. Chipmunk stripes turned into a faint lacing look almost (?). They are 6-7 weeks old.

Anyone have Pic of 3 Wk Old Australorps?

Black Australorp pullet at about 3 weeks.

Following up on the darker colored one. Brown Red OEGB? This is at roughly 6.5 weeks. Does this mean the head will come in more red?

And to think last year I was obsessing and wondering about if I had all pullets or not. This year it seems pretty clear what’s what (except my Silkies). 5 week old OEGB:

    Failure to thrive? Coccidiosis?

Update: She has been holding her own and I put her back in with the others. She is still the smallest, but she has been growing slowly and is now solid on her feet. Her wings seem a bit raggity and her feathers haven’t come in as much, but she has some fight in her. She is up to 74g today (was...

    Thin shell and calcium deposits?

They aren’t eating huge amounts of treats; they primarily are eating the pellets. I would say all 12 share a cup of corn or sunflower seeds on average each day. If I have food scraps they get those, but that’s not every day. Maybe once a week or so I give them some cabbage or lettuce. That’s...

    Thin shell and calcium deposits?

I have one who lays larger eggs that tend to have a thinner shell and calcium deposits on one end. They tend to feel a little gritty on the outside. Additionally, a few have had a small hole in the end when I collect them. I’ve had some broken eggs recently, so I’m assuming someone pecked...

    Failure to thrive? Coccidiosis?

She is on medicated feed, which is what she was on when I got her. I gave them a little bit of hard boiled egg one day last week. I’m at between 95-90 degrees currently. She mostly stays close to the light, but is able to move away if she wants. Do I worry about coccidiosis with these...

    Failure to thrive? Coccidiosis?

I have a bantam chick that is not doing well. She is 1.5-2 weeks old and doesn’t seem like she is growing. She has been somewhat lethargic (sitting mostly. Sometimes with eyes closed) but is eating/drinking. Her crop seemed huge. My first concern was some type of impacted crop. I tried...

    Clean legged bantam breed?

Okay thanks. I have two others and they both have clear lacing so I wasn’t sure. Not my picture, but looks like this:

One more. What about this? Head looks like the Sebright, but the coloring coming in on the wings is different. The Sebright wings definitely seem to appear laced, but this is not.
