    Turkey Dying? Can't move...

I've tried to find an answer in the BYC archives, but can't seem to find anything similar. A couple days ago, our 5 week old turkey poult started walking funny, (as if they don't ALWAYS walk funny). Now, he lays on his side, with legs outstretched. I thought maybe the predator that got 11 out...

Carton or not to carton is the question???

I may let one carton hatch in the carton and one take out an let hatch on the wire see how it goes. Good idea. Then you can do your own test. My first hatch I didn't use a carton, and the hatched chicks ran around that bator rolling over the pipped eggs FACE DOWN on their pips! I hated that...

Carton or not to carton is the question???

Do ya'll use paper or styro cartons? Bottoms cut out or not?? Many recommend cardboard, but I've only used styrofoam. I've heard the cardboard can wick up water and raise the humidity too much. The styrofoam w/ the bottoms cut out work wonderfully for me. And...this is the place to come with...

Carton or not to carton is the question???

This is our second hatch with a carton and we like it! Instead of hand rolling 3 or 4 dozen eggs several times a day, we just tilt a few cartons and we're done! Our hatch was better with a carton, but I don't know if it was better BECAUSE of the carton. We used a few clothes pins to prop up...

    Is there still hope?

I've heard some say that if the temp was a little low, it could take a couple extra days. Give it till day 23 anyway.

Now I see why people were ranting... some answers please????

You may have a faulty thermometer. Maybe you should get another one and tuck in the bator. Perhaps with 2 going, you'll get a better reading.

PLEASE HELP! My 2 chicks wont eat or drink!!

We gave ours yogurt and I think we even tried milk with a dropper. May have added sugar to the milk, I don't remember. But if you have to manually feed them, you're going to have to feed them small amounts often. Hope it goes well.

    postoffice OPEN on SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!

They are closed on Sundays, but.... Perhaps you could call on Saturday, talk to the Supervisor, and ask if the clerk on duty can call you IF they come in. Usually, someone has to be at the post office for an hour or two EVERY DAY because mail usually comes in EVERY DAY, but because they're...

Help! Time to cull, or does she have a fighting chance?

I've also heard a mirror and a feather duster that you hang and the chick can hide under, kinda like a mother hen. We did another chick buddy and a stuffed animal, as the previous posters recommended.

Help! Time to cull, or does she have a fighting chance?

My first thought was her crop, also. The crying is probably not pain, but loneliness. If it's her crop, it will go down, and will fill up again when she eats.

    Day 22-Are they Dead?

Our first hatch was a little late, too. Some say if the temp was a little low, it could result in a late hatch. Hang in there, and wait another day or two.

    Scary times during a storm

they did not want to get out from under the coop Maybe that's where they'll go during the rain. Isn't kinda dry under there? I have a similar question - what do you do during very severe weather? Tornados, hurricanes, and storms that can blow away your coop.
