Cracked Quail Egg = Quick Snack
Still averaging 8 eggs a day even with this heat. Dropped an egg and cracked it a bit. Decided it was time for a snack anyway. Quail egg easy over with cheese on top resting on a whole wheat cracker seasoned with a bit of Tony's. -

99 here, at least no rain for the past month = little humidity and no mosquitoes. -

Well, I've got another roughly 100 eggs.
Not bad. Easy to dry out if you cook to hot or too long. -

Do quail need roosts or nest boxes?
I have an all wire bottom cage with a sandbox. All my eggs thus far have ended up in the sandbox. So although they don't need "nest boxes" if you have a wire cage you might consider giving them a place with solid ground to lay there eggs in as it makes egg hunting that much easier. -
does anyone keep cortunix on the ground?
Depends on the temperatures in your area and how many feathers they have. -

I used pruning shears. Cut down near the base as I found they don't twitch as long the more neck you leave on the head. -
Egg Wisperer
Any egg wisperers here? I've got 10 hens and 2 roos in the cage, this is week 9 and best I can figure I only have 3 ladies laying eggs. Any secrets or am I being too impatient? No signs of bullying. I've just culled 8 roos could that change have stopped production? Game Bird Starter and...
