So I have about 11 assorted chickens over a year. Orphingtons, deleware, ee, American, austrolorps. They all lay pretty regularly. We also have 4 babies that are about 11 wks, maran and partridge penedesca. I have now for the first time ever collected 3 robin size eggs. Is it possible that...
I have a gavilnised waterer for our chickens. Apparently you can't put apple cider vinegar in it or it will rust. Well I did not know that until after I did it! Now I can't get the rust off. Tried steel wool but it came right back. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ok, so this is what I did.... One of the new moms was picking on the chicks that were not hers and one died. That was I believ on the second day. So we seperated the 2 moms for about a week. Once the moms and babies started venturing out of the coop we let the other mothe and baby. One out...
Yesterday our Gil's hatched there first eggs 1 mama has 4 babies and the other has 1. We do still have them in the coop with the other girls. I know a lot of people seperated them. I was wondering has anyone had success with not separating them from the rest of the flock? If so, do you make...
I have a hen who won't leave the nesting box. It has been about 4 or 5 days. I have checked her for an egg. I don't feel a bulge, I actually use Vaseline and checked internally, tried the warm water bath. When I make her come out she usually frantically eats and scratches the grass and lay...
I guess I was wondering more if the meat would be bad because the adrenalin was pumping so quickly rather than resting. I know she has only been gone for about an hour. When you say rest, do you mean while it is alive or do you mean to let the meat rest? I'm a little ignorant to this subject...
We lost our polish first who was a small chicken 2 weeks ago. Today we lost sammon favriole who is a pretty stocky girl. We have a secure pen but on such a gorgeous day they love to be out. We happened to be inside when the commotion happened. By the time we had gotten out there she was...
We are rescuing a chicken that is pretty naked. It was bullied by the other birds. My question is since it has no feathers, should I have a heat lamp at night for her? I am going to make her a jacket until she grows some feathers. I am conflicted about the heat lamp because I really didn't...
Tonight I was worried because of thunder and lightening. Rain I don't worry! My chickies are getting to smart! I usually shake a can of meal worms and they come running. Now they know it means they I'll be locked up! They run to me and then turn around and run away!
I'm new to chickens.. I free range my chickies only when I am home. I have 2 questions. Do I need to put them in there pen when they are calling for a storm? I always thought they would just go back on there own if they senced a storm, but they don't.
Second question is as they get older will...

Hi! I'm in westchester . I was looking for some juvenile hens to buy. Actually just 2. I was hoping for 1 black copper maron and maybe a blue Easter egger. Is there any breeders in ny?
Thanks for everyone's responses. With bird 2 I was wondering if he was a cockerel with the feathers that appear to be saddle feathers and also the way he carries his tail. However I have also read in another posting that his lacing would be to perfect to be a male.. So I still don't really...
