I have 2 very handsome chamois Spitzhauben cockerels I need to rehome near Des Moines, Iowa. I got 4 chicks and 3 turned out to be male, plus I already have an older roo and not nearly enough ladies to go around! They are 6 months old today and other than jockeying for position, they’ve been...
Nearly 8 week update: we’ve not had any additional deaths after the first week, and the remaining birds are growing quickly! We’re going to start letting them free range soon, but for now they’re (hopefully) getting used to the idea of the coop as their home. Here’s a picture of the 13 tweens!
The DE is super dusty and could create respiratory issues. If you’re able to afford elector psp, it’s by far the easiest and most effective treatment. While expensive, you may be able to find a neighbor or friend to split the bottle with? It really is the best, safest & most convenient way to...
I don’t know how to link articles from this site, but if you search Corid oral drench instructions by @casportpony! But glad to hear she’s doing better!!!
I agree with the others. If she were mine, I would direct dose her with corid for 3 days, plus add corid & water to her feed to make a wet mash. You could also give her corid in her drinking water, but if she’s eating well, I’d probably just give her plain water. During this time I’d also offer...
2 week guinea keet update:
We moved the keets to their coop 3 days ago (12 days old) and put them back on pine shavings & under the heat plate. We’ve not had any additional losses since #4 at 5 days old. If I were to do it all again, there are a few changes I’d make: first, I’d start brooding...
Not a silly question at all! Yes, I was giving warm water, both plain & with PND. Knock on wood, it’s been almost 3 days since we’ve lost one. I have a sneaking suspicion it was due to the ambient temperature in the garage being too warm & they didn’t have a place to cool off. They’re in the...
I have NEVER struggled so hard to keep babies alive! This is my first time with guineas and they are doing everything they can to die. I sure hope the ones who live are super hardy, cause I don’t think I can do this again! Without a doubt the most humbling experience raising fowl I’ve ever had.
Dang it, I’m pretty sure I’m about to lose another. She’s under the heat plate, eyes closed and when I lifted the plate she stretched upward to breathe and she sounds gargly, like she’s got fluid in her chest 🥺. I am at a loss.
Also, I got the temp down to 90. And they seem to prefer plain water...
