Warming the core is my goal. A little steam in a non windy run is no different than ones own breath. What happens when a chicken gets a drink?
There's a handful of nitt picky members here whom will dissect and critique anything that is put up here. Over and out
There's plenty of ventilation @aart. That OPEN 4X4 door is plenty.
It seems on this site there are too many "think they know it all" chicken snobs that have nothing better to do than critique anything that is posted that didn't meet their criteria.
How does warm oatmeal in a run not benefit chickens? Please elaborate, it's nice to read facts behind opinions.
Ok @aart, I waited an hour for your response, none to be found, but then you critiqued something about my run with no facts to back it up.
6 mill plastic really working well. Can feel the warmth when I go in from outside. Picture was from a month ago, 20" snow now covering most ther lower sections.
We both had similar temps overnight. I did buy an acurite wireless thermometer, the sensor hangs up near where they roost. The overnight temps got down to -5°F, with wicked winds giving us a wind chill of -20°F. The coop stayed around 20°F with no heat- just their body heat. The coop is vented...
I added one of these sensors to the coop which will allow me to keep tabs on coop temperature and any humidity. Chickens did well with their first negative temps of -5°F this past week with more negatives coming this week. Nice to have a range of 330 feet...
Poop shelf wide enough here too, to catch everything. What a difference in coop cleanliness after I added it, compared to not having a catcher! Any way to make it wide enough to catch everything?
Outside nesting boxes keep egg collecting simple, gathering from the outside. Yea, sometimes we'll find the eggs under the coop, on the ramp, e.t.c.
Roosting bars higher than the nesting boxes
Nesting box area, still under construction in this pic
Separation walls, hay added
A view...
I'll leave their small coop door open. The run is covered with plastic, so not as drafty when it's windy. Chickens have free choice whether to go out or not
You can try that. Salted apples may work in a trap. We both live in high country and have similar predators. I would take it out because it's after your girls. Minks will kill them, Fisher cats are crazy when they are in attack mode. Good luck
