    Eggs Disappearing?

Two years in a row I stopped getting eggs around July. Only an occasional one or two from my 4 hens. I figured this would go on indefinitely year after year. I did find the occasional egg outside the nesting box towards the pop door. One day I found an egg between the nesting box and the coop...

    best automatic chicken doors

I only have experience with one door and that is the Ador1. Although I hate the suggested lantern battery cuz it's such a tight fit and make securing the wires a pain, albeit minor. I replaced that battery with a pair of 18650 lithium-ion rechargeables wired in series to give 7-8.4 volts. They...

    Super loud hen!

Never, ever, ever reward them for their noise making. If they think they can get something out of you by screaming then they will scream. I've completely stopped giving them a morning treat, cuz they begin to expect it. They go to the fence, look at the house, and they know I'm in there. They...

    ADOR1 Automatic Coop Door?

That works fine. If you close it early, it will stay closed at nightfall and open in the morning just fine. But.... if you hold the button down and drive the door that way, then the door does nothing at all until that button is pressed again. In this case a quick press of the button puts it back...

Adore1 automatic coop door anybody else have it?

Here's another test you can try. Open the Ador panel and disconnect the battery. Now look at the circuit board which is mounted vertically on the right side of the battery compartment. There is a row of electronic connector pins sticking up along that board. They are numbered 1-6, #1 is furthest...

Adore1 automatic coop door anybody else have it?

If it was in "manual mode" it wouldn't open or close ever by itself. I would first make sure it was quite dark for several hours and see if it closed by that time. You've maybe done this already. There's another programming option for light sensitivity. It will close earlier and open later. That...

    Malware Central!

I love internet forums including this one but the ad load is ridiculous on BYC. Even right now on a high powered computer on a fast cable connection, CPU usage is steady at 45-50% doing absolutely nothing but staring at a loaded page. And I can't even type this message without having to wait...

    ADOR1 Automatic Coop Door?

I have told Rod that he absolutely MUST provide a timer option. Other than the lightbulb-in-a-box solution that he has on his web site. He has told me that he was going to do it, it is actually quite simple but it's a matter of economics and priorities. He is an extremely busy person and has...

    ADOR1 Automatic Coop Door?

The door should not be able to free-fall like that. At first I thought the door had disengaged from the sprocket but I can see the sprocket spin as the door falls. I must then suspect that the sprocket is loosened from the motor's drive shaft. There is an Allen screw that holds the sprocket...

    Reconsider Effectiveness of Hardware Cloth

Yikes! That's not the first time on this forum we've seen hardware cloth breached, the 19-gauge 1/2" stuff anyway. It never seemed all that strong to me so I backed it up with a layer of 1x2 welded wire which is very strong stuff. The raccoons in this area must be fat and happy. My neighbor uses...

    screaming chicken?

In my limited experience, some of them are just screamers. I would have no problem with "relocating" one of my hens if she kept this up continuously. But it has been intermittent so far. Word of warning... do NOT respond to the screaming by visiting them and handing them treats. If they begin to...

    Introducing new chickens

Scary. The takeaway from this article is that no matter what you do the older chickens will attempt to kill the younger ones. If physical assault fails, then depriving them of food and water will also be tried. The only hope is that the attempted murder is postponed long enough for them to get...

My Buff Orp. Will not stop setting

Seems like half the time there's a broody-hen thread, it's a Buff Orpington. I'll never own one again, unless I decide to hatch eggs.

    Super loud hen!

I'm glad some other folks are just as annoyed as I am at the occasional obnoxious noise levels coming from these hens. If any of my hens were to be noisy all day long she would soon find herself no longer a part of my flock. Funny that roosters aren't allowed in places where riotously noisy hens...

    Sweet PDZ?

My first reaction is that they should not be walking around in pure PDZ. In horse stalls and such they just spread a thin layer across the floor along with the existing bedding matrials. Chicken keepers in this forum generally use PDZ in the poop-trays beneath the roosting areas. It's to catch...

A Mystery That Needs Solving ASAP!!!!!!!

Could be a raccoon... or something else. Sorry, nobody can tell you for sure. Every day in this forum people are asking the same question and it is never conclusively answered.

Interesting conversation with King freedom feed nutitionist this am

My concern wasn't with GMO, it was with the list of allowed chemicals between organic vs non-organic. And I have no idea what's going on there. Personally, I think the anti-GMO movement is a large FUD campaign. People can't judge where the truth lays.
