The Duck-ponics Experiment - Raising minnows

I would worry about a sump pump overheating. Aren't they designed to deal with temporary flooding after rain and whatnot? If you want it to run all the time I would check and see if that will cause problems.

    lethargic duck, need advice

Today I found that Coco had broken into the partition and all the girls were cuddled up next to each other on either side of the partition. My guess is that when my girl (unnamed for fear this would happen) died she was cuddled up with her sisters. That was her happy place. Rest in peace...

    lethargic duck, need advice

She's definitely getting stronger but she's still not eating without me holding her in front of the food. She just seems really sleepy all the time. I've gotten her to eat a mix of her regular food and some water plus kale on top. She ate a little mashed banana, didn't like the yogurt, and...

    lethargic duck, need advice

She's about the same this morning. Coco broke down the partition I had set up for her, so she spent the night cuddled with her sisters. This morning I put in the new improved partition. That operation was sufficiently scary that she actually got up and walked away from it. Her carriage was much...

    lethargic duck, need advice

She's not out of the woods yet, but she's better than she was an hour ago. I divided the brooder so she can see the others but has her own food and water. In addition to the niacin, electrolytes and raw apple cider vinegar I added a little bit of honey and floated some kale on top. Then I dipped...

    lethargic duck, need advice

I let her swim with her sisters in the bathtub. I threw in some kale and she ate a little. Its like she does everything in slow motion. She has started making soft peeping noises but otherwise not much has changed. I'm worried she's dying.

    lethargic duck, need advice

I went on a three day camping trip and my husband watched the nearly 5 week old ducklings for me. When I came back he told me that one of them has been acting strangely. She didn't fuss when he picked her up out of the tub to dry her off. She's not vocalizing and although she's a runner she's...

    are my ducklings too fat?

They've been eating gamebird feed, and then "duckling starter" from the local feed store. The only treat we've fed them is the occasional bit of kale. They seem happy and active, but they also seem ... lumpy. From the side: From the front: I had this image in my head of tall sleek birds...

    ducklings

for #3 you're only going to get babies from fertile eggs if the eggs are incubated. Mothering dedication varies from bird to bird so its not a sure thing.

Pictures of your duckling's 'pond' please!

Wasn't really intended for swimming water, but I couldn't find a good way to stop them.

    My first ducklings!

growing like weeds is a silly expression. They should say, "growing like ducklings." They are supposed to be growing like this right? I don't have some sort of strange mutant ducks?

    Yay! We're Flooded!! **Pic Heavy**

Not the usual reaction to "we're flooded" but I guess we're not the most usual people.

    Water in Brooder...

...give them swimming water, but they kept tipping over their smaller water containers that did have lids. This bigger container doesn't have a lid. *Sigh* I need to find myself some gallon jugs and cut holes in them. Soda bottles don't work, too easy to tip over. Also pretty easy to climb into...

    My first ducklings!

Ok, two weeks in and they are HUGE! If they keep growing at this rate they'll be fighting crime in no time. Here they are on their first trip out to the lawn. Here is their favorite hangout spot. Here is Kola doing her first little bit of duck herding. She's half border collie and a pretty...

Poll: favorite breed of duck :)

I voted for bali because runner wasn't up there. maybe I'm biased but runner seems like an important one to have up there. Still, interesting poll.
