I wouldnt put feeder or water under the heat. Away from there. They will tell u if they arent warm enough by huddling under the light if they arent warm enough. If they are by outer edges of light then they are good. If they are far away from light most of time then its too hot.

To be honest i pick breeds that are cold hardy and lay good. My chickens arent my pets. They are doing a job for me. Laying eggs and helping eat ticks in summer.
