    Oregon

Oh, I know exactly where La Pine is, we have a cabin out there. Do you get coyotes and other critters trying to get into your coop? Where I live we have minks and raccoons that try to get it, and sometimes skunks, but they aren't very smart at getting into the coops so they usually don't win...

    Oregon

What part of Oreogn do you guys hail from? I'm from around Eugene area, live in the valley. I was wondering how flock raising techniques differ per area. I live outside though, we own a few acres, so we have more than just chickens.

    THE all purpose chicken

Thank you guys all for your advice. I think we're going to do some more research, and see what we want/need v.s. what we can supplement other ways. Maybe 2 or 3 of a mixed flock would be better for us anyway. But I'm going to do some research, we've decided to wait at least an other year because...

    THE all purpose chicken

I've had chickens before, and I like them. Also I'm not exactly looking for a bird that excels in everything as much as a well rounded bird. Like I said, it'll only be my husband and myself and we probably aren't going to need to eat very many eggs. I am just looking for a bird that is a good...

    QUESTIONS again :-)

Basically, just continue to put them in the coop, and eventually they should catch on that that's where they are supposed to go at night. Just every evening, at the same time, put them in there. They should catch on. That's how we trained ours.

    THE all purpose chicken

I think that's what I'll try, and even if we end up with a few we like, we can keep them.

    THE all purpose chicken

Thank you guys so much! I think for our first year we may get a variety and see what we like, then keep those ones. Maybe a few Orpingtons, a few Australorps, and a few Dominikers.

    Chicken treats?

There is a list of treats on the site under resources also, it doesn't have ages. There is a good book, I think it's a Storrey's guide, that has ages in it.

    Missing hen

I would do a good walk around of your property/ any place she could be. It could be either of the above. I've had both happen to me. One time we didn't even know a hen was missing until we found some dead chicks, and went to look to see where they were coming from and found a hen with 12 babies...

    Chicks with hen?? PLEASE HELP

I agree, separate. The only time this every works is if you have NEW baby chicks, like just hatched/1 day old and a broody hen who wants to be a mommy, and even then, sometimes it doesn't work. I'd suggest not putting them together until at LEAST 8 weeks of age, where the chicks are a bit...

    Black dots

Does the other one have it as well? Do they seem to get along well? You may want to get some mite stuff just to be sure, but it could just be scabs from other things, did it look bloody?

    Egg eaters!

It seems like it might be able to work, but then again, if you stress the hen out, it may not eat the eggs either. But I guess you could always try it, doesn't seem like anything will go wrong with it.

    Egg eaters!

It seems like it may already be a problem. You can try the golfing balls and see if they work, but if they don't, it looks like you're going to have to cull.

Review by '' on item 'Sussex'

We got 6 of these, and they were amazing birds! They were super friendly and fun to watch around, though they did like to pick on our Cochins and fight with some of the other ones. One of them ended up hiding away from us and brooding a batch of chicks, she had about 12 that hatched when we had...

    Baby Duck raising?

Then you should be set. Even if they are a few days apart you'll be ok. But if you get one a little older than the other, make sure it's the Khaki that's older. They grow super fast, I'm sure you'll see, and one week is a huge difference, especially when you're already talking about a pekin!
