Should my roosters come to dinner?

I ask whats for dinner, but I think I know. You may want to consider keep one rooster to help protect the flock. There are great youtube videos to show you how to properly butcher a chicken.

    Leghorn Rooster - pure?

He is unique and pretty. I think a leghorn and EE or ameraucana cross is pretty close. I would get some leghorn hens and some Ameraucana hens to breed him with and see what you get.

8-week Easter Egger "pullet" - is it actually? *Updated 10-week pics pg 3 - Boy or girl?*

Sorry wordgirl for not posting my pic back sooner. These are my EE's when they were around 16-18 weeks old. Missy is the one with the white head in front similar to yours. Notice also Brownie on the right...she has pointy tailfeather too. I think it depends on what was crossbred into these...

    HELP....sick chick very sudden....

I was thinking the same thing. To the OP are you using a medicated feed? It helps prevent cocci. I love to stay as organic as possible, but I do use the medicated feed for my chicks for the first 6 to 8 weeks. If the label doesn't say medicated then run to a farm supply store and change their...

Why do my hens keep dying?

Im not for sure what you have going on with your chickens, but thought I would at least check with you on some basics. 1) Have you ever wormed them? 2) Any sign of lice/mites? 3) Respitory issues?(gargling, bubbly eyes etc) 4) Possible environment contamination? (poison or plants that are...

Someone Complained, Chickens Must Go -- Joliet, IL

I agree with chickens being allowed! Most cities I know of only allow 3 hens, but I say if you have the sqaure feet in your yard for more ...why not have more?? I was an outlaw before with 3 acres in the country. My township said you had to have 10 acres to have chickens.....township trustee was...

How much feed is enough feed?

I fill my feeders in the morning and they are low by evening time but not empty. I've heard that they can start feather pecking / fighting if they do not have food. I would add a larger feeder or another feeder. I wouldnt want to go to bed hungry.

I don't know if anyone else has ever tried DDG (Dried Distiller Grain). Its a byproduct of ethanol, so if you live near a plant its cheap and easy to purchase. Its mainly protein so their is no calcuim. For chickens some college studies say not to feed more than 6% of DDG. They gave me a free...

Ruffled feathers on 3 & 1/2 week EE

I tried to edit to answer other question. Hard bump sounds like your little Smores may have a impacted crop. I would seperate her and take away reg feed for a few days, switch to a scrambled egg and olive oil diet.

Ruffled feathers on 3 & 1/2 week EE

She looks perfectly normal. She will smooth out as she gets the rest of her feathers. Usually about 7-10 weeks.

    Too hot hens

Is your coop shaded? Mine is under a large Maple tree. The young chickens in a small pen have shade from the pen, but I put out a very large sport umbrella to shade food and water. My older girls are doing fine but the ones I hatched this spring struggled more than the older ones....not sure why...

    Sour crop

I would add raw apple cider vinegar (the kind with mother in it) to the water and put her on a scrambled egg diet for a few days. Works for my girls every time.

Tell me the best way to cut Hardware cloth!

Quote: IMO the best tool to use is diagonal cutters - electricians use them (they refer to them as"dikes"). They are easier to handle than tin snips.
