6 week Black Australorps- Big Foot and Little Foot

I guess you will know when they either lay eggs.. or crow, lol. Keep an eye on the neck and saddle feathers, which in roosters, get long and drape down beside the tail. In cockerels the neck feathers are pointy, and in the pullets, rounded at the bottoms.

First timer and ordering a cackle BOX of 15 heritage males for thanksgiving dinner.....

In my experience with a hatch of turkeys (both sex's), they all got along, until they were about 7-8 months old. Then the fighting started. You would be safer, if there were NO females at all. There will be dominance sparing... but as a whole they should get along. Especially if your going...

Can you have too many male guinea fowl?

The females make a two syllable call... as well as the alarm sound. And good luck with creating harmony with the pickers and the pick ons. It won't happen. I've had this same group for eons... and they pick on the one boy. I have 2 of each sex. They also tend to be mean (all of them), to...

    she won't shut up!

I have a big pen with about 30 guinea's in it... and ALL the females in it, are the ones yacking. As in every second of every day. Until I turn out the lights. A female thing, I think, LOL. May as well add 25 or so more... one is just as bad as 20.

Incubating turkey eggs? Any helpful tips or advice?

2013 I had horrid hatches, with everything. Humidity was too high, from what I read. 2014 I started dry incubating. I only added water when the digital readout said it was in the 20's. (I have a thermometer/hydrometer, that measures humidity in the room, OR put the probe into the hole in...

Turkeys eggs developing but not hatching

I had two horrible hatches, then I started dry incubation. As in adding NO water to the trays at all. My hydrometer told me the room humidity was at about 58-65%. I only added water to the lockdown stage. I still had a few turkey eggs not hatch, but did hatch 12 out of 16 set. One was...

    Mixing heritage with older bb

I just put day old poults with week old poults, and they got along great! Just keep an eye on them for awhile, and see how they are getting along. All mine were heritage palms and some were crossed with red pencilled palms. I don't see why the bigger breed turkey wouldn't get along with the...

    heritage turkeys

I purchased 3 heritage turkeys last fall. They were hatched in June. I paid $180 for them. They are red pencilled palms, and relatively rare here... as they came from Porters... but they do NOT ship to Canada any longer. There are two Toms, and a hen. This spring, I have the hen with the...
