Looking for information on owning Pheasants in Maine.

I was looking at hatcheries for Ring Necked Pheasants. They send a NPIP Certificate with every order, so that's hassle free mostly. I'm in Bingham which a small place in the middle of nowhere, except town's not super far away.

    Scabs on chicken skin?

Scabs can be removed if you want. Most of the time I won't bother removing them if there's lots. Yes I do still eat the birds.

Okay, there is no 2025 updated version, so I guess it still applies, which seems like good news.

I know chickens don't require a permit. I think I'll make a thread tomorrow, & see if anyone will be able to decipher this better, so it less confusing.

Peafowl require the permit as well, which is stupid. Chickens fall in the same family, Phasianidae, so not sure what these people who make these regulations were thinking?

I had to find some other information, & that's what came up.

Okay, I just found my answer. I would need a category 2 Restricted species permit for personal use. I was hoping I could actually own large pheasants without any special permits here. Oh, well.

I didn't see anything about pheasants in there.

One thing I want to find out is if I need a license, or permit to own ring neck pheasants in Maine? I'll probably ask in a different thread as well tomorrow. Thought I'd share my question here first.
