The strong seemed to have survived. I did treat with corid to be safe for the past 10 gallons of water. Whatever it was seemed to have wiped out the most vulnerable as the ones that survived never acted sick in the first place so I am not 100% sure it was the corid that did it.
How long do I...
Thanks again for the response.
I have treated their water with Corid. All of the ones that appeared sick have died so hopefully the rest are strong enough to make it.
Well bad news...Tonight I was putting them up in the coop and one's leg wouldnt work and she would just fall over on her side. Her wing on the same side was drooping also. Scared it could be Mareks at this point, however I have read that it could be a vitamin deficiency?
"Eventually birds...
I have lost several chickens over the past couple weeks, and one daily for the past 3 days. They are around 12 weeks. I have them outside in the coop with the big birds who are doing fine. The ones that have died all came from a local feed store, and the batch 3 weeks ahead of them from...
As long as they are fully feathered they will be fine. It takes some longer to get there than others. You will know when its time because they will look like unruly chickens and not the fuzzy cute chicks they used to be.
Light brahma chick thinks hes a duck! You can see the floor is soaked. The RIR's are up on the feeder to get out of the water. Wife is on the way home with a second brooder now to get them dry again.

Bath time!
Yeah thats whats going to happen. Everyone said that the ducks and chickens brood fine together but I never expected everything to be so wet for the chicks. They roost on their feeder 24/7 to get off the wet ground.
I am raising my ducklings and chicks in the same brooder but the messy ducks keep splashing water around everywhere, soaking the floor and making it a soggy mess. I think the chicks are annoyed and dont like the wet conditions. I worry about them getting cold from being wet.
Is there a...
A good dog should solve most of your issues. If you dont want to go that route you could invest in some electric netting. It can be rolled up and moved around very easily. You will have to come up with something to protect from hawks but it should take care of anything 4 legged. I dont think...
I quickly made up this spreadsheet earlier today on poultry profitability. This does not include the price to build each chicken tractor nor processing costs. I plan on using the Joel Salatin model chick tractor and moving each tractor daily over a 5 acre field. I understand 1sq ft per bird is...
Dont worry guys...I couldnt care less what breed they are. We just got them for free so if they arent "real" Ameraucana's its no big deal. Long as it lays eggs it will have a spot on my roost.
If they are Light Brahmas I am even happier as we will have more variety in the flock. I guess it...
Will she look like a regular brown Araucana? The ones I have now looked like chipmunks as babies and they turned out brown/black. These look yellow like a leghorn chicken.
Heres a pic. Ignore the hat lol.
I just grab a grocery bag full from the barn and it lasts for months. The girls keep it pretty clean in the nesting boxes, much cleaner than my leghorns, so the hay lasts a long time.
I bet this is it. The carpet is a good idea. Every time I put fresh hay in there they always scratch it out of the way so I just let them be. I guess I was just confused as to why the blue eggs dont do it, but their shells are a little thicker normally.
Thanks.
For some reason my brown eggs are slightly cracked near the top of the egg every day and I am not sure why. Are the hens doing it? Is it accidental? I thought so but cracked in the same spot every time? I have 3 barred rock hens and it has been this way for several weeks now. I also have 3...
Just wanted to update this for reference. Went out and found some PolyViSol at my local Walmart and began administering it to the chick daily. It was hard to get her to drink it, but i basically gave her several drops each night. Usually around a half dropper if she was taking it readily...
Just in case anyone else has this problem, Walmart (or any pharmacy) sells a vitamin supplement for infants called Poly Vi Sol. I added it to their water and the chicken seems to be responding well to it. I couldnt get her to drink it voluntarily from a dropper.
Anyways if anyone else runs...
