Update: chick is back with mom, snuck her back in last night. Mom took her back with no issues (thank goodness) Chick is favoring her foot just slightly, but is much better than 2 days ago.. I'll continue to watch her today....no free ranging, just time in the run so she isn't too overworked...
Yes, I know that separating the chick by itself could lead to other issues down the road. I wasn't able to successfully isolate mom and chicks that well (they escaped the fencing I had put in the coop) so I took the chick out as a secondary option. She is able to bear weight on her foot again...
Thanks you for reply, she is here in the house now, confined and the swelling has gone down considerably. The bruising is more purple/darker. She is eating and drinking and resting. She is not putting weight on it, but I do catch her testing it.
Appreciate the help!
Hi. Hoping someone can help this little one. I don't know how she got injured, yesterday she was limping, but today the bruising is evident. She is able to fly and keep up with her mom, but is definitely hopping on one leg. Thanks in advance for looking!
1) What type of bird , age and weight...
Sheesh! I guess it's unanimous, thank you for looking at my guys...off to discuss options with my hubby...won't miss the white ones, but I am a little more fond of the Polish
Hi. I have three 11 week old chicks, one is crowing and I am suspicious that the other 2 are Roos too Would love some opinions, thanks in advance!
Here is our Polish -Vera/Vern:
And here is Prima/Primo:
Prima has yellow legs, confirmed Roo has white. They are the same size...
I thought I would post an update. The 4th chick did not make it, here legs splayed and despite efforts to help her was in a lot of pain and couldn't move well enough to find food or water. She survived 3 days post hatch, that was a sad day here. Of the 3 remaining, we have 1 roo and 2 hens. One...
Agreed, ayschmidt...happy for the ones I have. Chickenman0806...I didn't candle the eggs, I tried but all I saw was my hand's shadow. So all the eggs stayed in the bator. I did do the float test after the 1st two were hatched When all was done, We egg-topsied about 9 of the eggs, half never...
Yes, all set the same day. It was our first hatch so I have no idea how/why things turned out the way they did. Some of the eggs were shipped, and shipped thru the "polar vortex" The 2 eggs that hatched Sunday -one was from my eggs ( not shipped) and one was shipped after the bitter cold. The...
First hatch....learning a lot!! I don't know what day I am on, I set my eggs at 8pm on Saturday Jan 25th. I had 2 chicks hatch on Sunday, they are fine and in our brooder. We lost one chick that had started to zip, the incubator was dry.
I floated the rest of the eggs, had 11 that seemed to be...
Update: one new chick hatched today (day23) she was the "most" wiggly of all the floaters yesterday. She peeped yesterday, but hadn't poked thru the shell. I gave her a little help starting and she zipped right out. Waiting for her to dry off and I will see if there is any more activity...
This is my 1st hatch and feel more anxious than when I was pregnant with my own kids. Yesterday, we had 2 chicks hatch (day 21) but noticed our 3rd had started to zip but stopped progress and the membrane was bone dry. Even The sponges I had put in to help keep humidity were curled dry! A few...
