Thought i'd pop in here to tell you guys I moved the little coop house and ended up in urgent care with a bad tear in a muscle in my back!!!! Almost passed out into the duck pond, landed in a pile of duck poop and leaves which were still stuck all over me when I was in urgent care (It's ok, you...
I should explain that it's a cage that stands fine by itself and then the thick plastic for wind/water protection. No it's not particularly predator proof but so far our only predators are hawks which can't see them in there. I'm just concerned about snow and temp with just plastic. Do I need to...
This is another option I have. In my original post I said all 5 ducks wouldn't fit in there but perhaps they would? It has a very small run that can be attached to it. But it's currently in a very exposed spot and the doorway is facing the direction we get most of our wind. I can move it but I'm...
This is another structure they have, not big enough for all of them. At least 1 duck has decided this week to start laying her eggs in there. This also has a 'door' but I never close it as they don't go in there except to lay.
So this is their cage they go into at night, sometimes I put wood over the entrance sometimes I don't. It's a clear tablecloth type material over it. The picture makes it look very small but it's actually fine for my 5 ducks. As you can see it's in a sheltered spot.
I have a large shed I use as a chicken coop. It is plenty big enough for my 18 chickens, I could easily have 8 or so more without thinking about crowding. It has a big window and the top panes of this window are currently just mesh. I was planning on blocking these up for the winter to keep the...
This is my first winter with poultry. I've got the chicken winter situation pretty well figured out but I'm not so sure about my ducks. I have a wire cage that they go into at night and I have a tarp over the top and sides, the back side is sheltered but not tarped, i.e. it's not going to get...
I have a female Rouen and she doesn't seem to be laying although is way old enough. Any help? I can identify my other duck's eggs as to who they belong to. I thought I got about 3 eggs from my rouen shortly after I got her but then no more that looked the same at all. Can someone show me what...
I have a white crested black polish and I'm beginning to think "Fancy" is actually "Mr. Fancy". I have the same problem, the other chickens keep pecking his/her head feathers off! It isn't at the bottom of the pecking order and can hold its own quite well, I never see the other chickens bullying...
So are we basically saying if it's not stinky/doesn't float then it's ok? My ducks just started laying and I'm having trouble finding the eggs. They are 24/7 free range. So when I do find one I have no idea how long its been there. I want to eat the eggs but I don't want to get sick! It's really...
Is there any way to tell whether an egg is safe to eat? My first and second duck eggs, one I found on the mud around the pool. I had no idea how long it was there. Another I found in the pond, again, no idea how long it was there. I've been looking in the morning and not seen any, then I go out...
My grandpa passed away and my grandma said I could take anything from their chicken coop as long as I didn't make her get chickens ever again! So I got a super nice fancy wall mounted nesting box thing. Just had to clean super old poop off it which was nasty nasty
