Egg did not make it. I candeled today and did not see any changes. I opened it up and found only a small little chick that appears to have stopped not long after I found the problem. I am sure that air cell down would have caused issues at hatching.
Also, after looking at the calender...

Thats funny, I do the same thimg on craigslist. Looking for things that can be used for chicks or chickens. Its a full time job somedays! Well, my DH would not think so as I seem to spend more on the item and the gas it takes to get me there
My lockdown plan is to keep my hands out of the bator this time. Its like a moth to a flame with me I think I will have to get out of the house for a bit when they start to hatch as that is when I want to pick them up to put them in the brooder so they dont rock and roll into each other.
I did some candeling myself last night and out of 46 of my own eggs 44 are fertile I am so happy of coarse they will all be mutts but thats just fine with me! Take a cup of coffee outside, park a lawn chair by the chicken run and play "Guess Whos Daddy is Yours" when they grow up Life is...

You in Montana? Whereabouts?
No, I'm actually from BC Canada!
Candled the eggs this evening. 3 out of the 4 serama eggs set are developing normally. The oldest of the 4 eggs quit early. Really difficult to make any progress with only one hen laying every couple of days!!

I will be doing a incubation with my daughters K class as well this coming spring. I am hoping it works out great for the kids I will use my styrafoam hovabator that is super picky about temperature and in wich room it sits in Good luck with you hatch
I believe our Mama Rosie banty hen is broody so we put a few eggs under her today. If the incubator does not have good results she is my back up plan. . She has been tested, tried and true everytime, hopefully my eggs are up to par for her!
Setting a few days later here, but sooo... looking forward to this hatch-a-long . I set 46 eggs from our own chickens. This is the first time with my own fertile eggs, so I will be checking for fertility rate. Caramel Queen hens over Ameraucana roos and 1 BLRW roo. Good luck to all

well, 41eggs were set and something happened along the incubation period early on. All had red lines So I guess this means they started then died before day 9 because that was the day I candeled I ended up having hope in 2 eggs but they did not hatch yesterday and today I will take...
Our little Mama Rosie has 3 chicks When I checked under her 1 had died and the other 3 egg went to full development but did not make it through the shell. I think the are buff orpingtons and not red rocks. The chicks are very large and yellow 1 is all black. The eggs were from the auction. It...

I candel on day 9-10 for dark or thick shelled eggs. As a first timer on candeling, this is also a good time to clearly see veins and or movement. Lighter eggs are alot more easy to see through, maybe day 6-7.You can always try and take a look. happy candeling
