Straw is pretty good, in my opinion. :) And, my chickens love it, too.
But I agree with Aart; anything involving chickens involves dust. It's kinda nasty and, well...dusty. But it's just a part of owning chickens, it would seem. :-)
I went outside to feed the chicks in the shed, since there's a light out there (but the ones outside have to wait longer 'til there's enough light outdoors so I can see what I'm doing).
Okay, Bob! I'm excited to see them, too. At the moment, though, I am the only one up in our house, lol. I'm that annoying person where, if my family is sleeping and we have somewhere to be, in order to get there on time I'll wake them up a bit early in advance...they don't appreciate it, so I'd...
Busy today tomorrow. We shall go to a wild horse and burro adoption event in a town about 2 and a half hours away!, just to look at the horses (can't bring one home yet because I don't have enough money saved up yet). My plans are to leave super early in the morning, so I have my alarm set for 5...
Could we see a picture of her? She might not even be a Leghorn...she could be a different type of bird with a red ear lobe, and you just haven't noticed, or just never knew. There are lots of white or brown partridge/pencilled (whatever color yours is) chickens out there, and Leghorns were bred...
Cool! Do/did you like your chicks/experience buying from Ideal?
I got my hen from my aunt last year (as a chick), and she got her from some farm-type store, I believe. And I got my new pullet from Orscheln's.
I agree, this can be a hard question to answer. And I totally agree with @Wolfefarmyard in this quote:
So, all in all, I might say for now that Barred Plymouth Rocks are my favorite birds, but Production Reds, RIRs, RSLs, etc., are great, too. My Barred Rock is extremely hardy, friendly, a...
If you wanna call it that, sure. :lau
Thanks for the link! I checked it out a bit earlier, and it sounds like an interesting thread to follow. :D
That sounds fun! I can't wait to read yours!
Lol, you're welcome, though I wasn't the one who actually thought of this. ;)
I do really want a Wellie, but no, Candy is just another Easter Egger. So far I have three of them right now (a hen, pullet, and a young straight run bantam).
Haha! Well, those are the types of animals I own, otherwise in this house there's also three inside cats, three dogs, and two...
I'll start with Candy and Georgia (Candy's the dark EE and Georgia is the white chick).
Day I got them (Georgia had very well developing wing feathers, albeit she was a tad smaller than Candy, so I'm estimating their birthday to be on Sunday, two days before):
Roughly a week old:
2-weeks:
Day...
Went shopping this morning.
And bought a lot of things (err...edible junk) I shouldn't have. Mmm; those donuts were good!
Hopefully I can convince my dad to let me drive (I'm still 'learning') him and me back to town so I can get or at least look at fencing. I need to get my garden...
I got updated pictures of the silkie now. I know the lighting/quality still isn't reall good or anything, but hopefully it's good enough (it's hard to get a good picture of Dr. Fuzzy Pants because she's constantly moving).
Hopefully you (silkie) color experts will stop by and share your guesses...
Now for pictures!
I'm including one of my ten-gallon aquarium. I gave it a fairly thorough cleaning today like I should've done the first Wednesday of last month. The reason the water looks so cloudy is because it still needs to settle more. I do work really hard to keep my tank pretty...
SOO happy and excited. I have today and tomorrow off as usual, and I requested this whole weekend off and so it's almost like a vacation for me! :celebrate Five days off in a row! :yesss:
I got a lot cleaned today. I cleaned my fish tanks (as I do every Wednesday), and I cleaned my mice cage and...
You know what, that very well might be a pullet after all. And I agree with you, it no longer strikes me as a male Red Sex Link, either. It seems awfully small...I dunno, perhaps it is a bantam, but probably not.. Maybe it's a White Leghorn?
