Tick infestation.. how to get them off ducks?

You need Permethrin in your life and in your clothing. And probably in the ducks pen and bedding but I'll let you research that as I am a chicken person not a duck. 0.5% mix your own or buy Sawyers premixed, keeps the ticks off and kills the ones that touch your clothing...

Ridiculous: Chicken snake ate one of my ceramic eggs

I keep golf balls around the coop, run and laying boxes, not to encourage laying but for the snakes. Once they eat enough golf balls they tend to lose interest and don't come around much anymore.

    Fermented feed

I use a regular 5 gallon bucket, fill 1/2 with feed, 3/4 water. Put the lid on but not snapped down the whole way so it can breathe through the process. Makes just under a full bucket of the right consistency for us, like oatmeal. No straining, mo muss, no fuss.

    pine straw for bedding

We live in a pine forest and use pine straw for deep litter in the run. 30" of rain from Flo and no mud. The chickens dig constantly turning it over and eventually into dirt/compost. I haven't bothered using it in the coop, $4.65 every other month for a bale of pine shavings works for me but I...

Is it normal for my silkie to be laying an egg every day ?

Yeah, it is pretty crazy. She has been fed properly, her 19 other roost mates are doing just fine and are plenty productive. She is healthy otherwise and very active in the flock, but definitely has the smallest little teeny brain out of all of them. Our silkie roo, who has his way with...

Pender County here, this isn't anywhere near over yet. The NE Cape Fear and Black rivers are in the process of cresting today thru Saturday. Expected to be higher, yet again, than Mathew. Many have gone back to salvage/protect what was left after the hurricane or weren't effected by...
