Does anyone have experience with a mixed flock of birds vaccinated for Mareks with birds unvaccinated? What happened to the birds weekly/monthly/over the years living together?
Thanks!
Thanks! The hens all ended up fine. No issues thank God. I think it was the permithrin dust I put in their coop that week that killed the rooster. I went a little overboard with dusting the coop & run. He must have inhaled it & the hen that was sneezing inhaled some but not enough to kill her ...
Good to know. I suspect that bedding plays into this one’s eye infection also somewhat. She seems to do better when not in coop so as she gets older & has more freedom to free range hopefully she’ll get over it. It’s a pain to treat every day.
I have a 2 month old showgirl silkie that has had an eye infection off and on since it was 3 days old. I hatched it with 15 other chicks and first noticed when it was 3 days old that it’s right eye was goopy and crusted closed. At that time I began treating it with terramycin for about a week...
Mine still has it, it’s huge & hangs down but she acts fine , runs around & eats, drinks normally so it obviously doesn’t bother her. Although it’s obvious & huge she is least of my worries since im dealing with coccidia in my younger chicks right now. Ugh 😑
Thank you! Around here an avian vet would charge over $100 just to see her & biopsy. Just not worth it for one chick to be frank. Hopefully it dissolves over time. So weird. I wonder if maybe she had a twin & the twin remains are what I’m seeing inside her? 🤷♀️ Either that or a tumor if some...
The chick is not in pain currently. It runs, plays & eats drinks. I’m an experienced chicken owner with many chickens & watch my chickens daily so notice small signs typically way before the average eye since chickens tend to hide their symptoms. If she was in pain I’d cull.
I still want to know what it is & if anyone else has experience with this. It’s huge & hard to the touch, lumps like tumors or something. But tumors on a baby chick? So weird. The other reason I want to know is because if it’s something contagious then I won’t integrate with the rest of my flock...
This 3 week old chick has a huge solid mass on its abdomen that seems to be growing bigger. It wasn’t born with it…When I feel it, it feels lumpy like tumors…but it’s a baby chick!! It has had the mass for over a week & the chick acts completely healthy running around eating & drinking with the...
