    April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Well that took a while! Day 28 started at 1 pm on Saturday, one hatched right around 1pm. The last 3 hatched this morning! The new babies are drying off while the bigger kids are in the brooder. We set 12 eggs, 2 infertile, 2 quitters and all remaining hatched! I love their little messy...

    April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Life has been so busy, that I haven’t been on much! Besides all the chicken and quail we already have I have growing out 18 coturnix that hatched 3.5 weeks ago, new bunny, and broody hens outside with babies, and 8 Ancona duck eggs in the incubator! Today is lockdown on the duck eggs and it...

    April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

ADVICE PLEASE! Hi everyone! Quick question. I have 2 broody Silkies sitting on a single egg that has internally pipped, I can hear it. BUT I never expected it to get this far, it had a severely detached air cell. Should I give it a safety hole in the shell, or just leave it be and have nature...

    MARCH 2021 HATCH-A-LONG 🌷🌸🌼

Woke up to at least 2 pips! Getting excited! First time hatching quail in the 360. Started with 26 eggs, 2 clear day 5, then 1 quitter day 13, so 23 to lockdown! Last night at 7pm day 16 started.

    MARCH 2021 HATCH-A-LONG 🌷🌸🌼

I saw the quail turner! I was lazy and haven’t replaced my wafer in my hovabator, otherwise I’d be incubating in there. A couple slots in the 360 have 2 eggs, and I haven’t had any issues as of yet. If I do quail in the 360 again, I will probably invest in the quail turner.

    MARCH 2021 HATCH-A-LONG 🌷🌸🌼

Totally forgot to hop on the March group! I’m hatching coturnix for a friend, and they’re a couple hours shy of day 12. I started with 26 eggs, and pulled 2 clears. Hoping the rest make it to lockdown. So excited to see what colors I hatch! This is my first hatch from my covey. My friend wants...

Welsummer beak shape normal or bad genetics

I hatched some welsummer eggs I purchased, and I am growing out 3 pullets. They are 4 weeks old and look odd to me. I have quite a variety of breeds in my flock, but I’ve never had any that have this beak shape/size as the welsummers. Normal for this breed or bad genetics?

    February Hatch-A-Long

The black and white chicks are actually a Pita Pinta/ Olive Egger cross. I can’t wait to see how they feather out!

Here’s a little photo shoot with some of the chicks. They’re such a calm bunch so far, no whiners!😂

    February Hatch-A-Long

13 out of 14 hatched! The last egg was fully developed, and I could see an attempt of internal pip, but just couldn’t. I can’t say enough good things about the 360! But, cleaning it was a bit tricky. Any tips or tricks for cleaning? Thanks! Happy hatching to everyone!

    February Hatch-A-Long

Day 21 and I woke up to 5 chicks, 2 hatched yesterday, and more pips! The second Pita/OE is so unique! Half of its beak is black. Rockstar chicken! The first Welsummer looks to be a boy, it’s pretty light.

    February Hatch-A-Long

First out is a Pita Pinta/OE cross and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Similar markings to a Pita, but it looks like the darker fluff is actually grey instead of black like pure Pitas.

    February Hatch-A-Long

I guess my incubator didn’t run 1.5 degrees too warm for as long as I thought. Day 19 and no pips yet. I usually have 1 early pip day 19 right before I go to bed. These little eggs have another hour to make something happen, lol. I’m actually ok with no early pips, because tomorrow I am away...

    February Hatch-A-Long

Likely a rotten egg. Bacteria could have infiltrated the shell. Good thing you caught it, I’ve heard horror stories of them exploding in the incubator and ruining everything!
