congrats, hoping they turn out happy and healthy for you! I have two blue ameracauna eggs peeping tonight, i'm getting mighty eggcited since this is my first hatch since last fall :D
I went through 3 or 4 homemade incubators and had such bad luck, then bought my little autoturn digital one...
Just throwing my experience with Sebright roos, mine were all very sweet, lovable and gentle little guys who integrated well into the flock with other roos without fighting. BUT - every single one of them (4) dropped dead at varying ages before 1 year old. They seemed to have a genetic problem...
Aubrey, I am getting some of your mottled d'anvers eggs, your pics just pushed me over the edge and sold it with the spotted beards. YAY :D
What other color would breed interestingly with mottled?
It's good to always have a boy in the flock, because an all female flock will eventually have a dominant hen who can even have an internal sex change and start to try to mate, and stop laying, because she assumes the necessary role of the male in the flock.
They do have a memory albeit not...
this is a very helpful post for sure.
i read this as i was soaking my mystery rash in a vat of neem oil, tea tree, other oils, and food grade DE in a 4/1 ratio. to think i was just using it on the chickens at first. its very good for people too.
The rash had crusty parts that i could not get off...
have a flock of 25 with about 8 roos. It took quite a lot of flock arranging to get them all to get along without attacking. The best bet is to raise them all together from the start so they are friends and act brotherly to each other. if you have sweet non-dominant roos, they will usually get...
Very good advice about teflon. They might be getting into something poisonous and eating it.. but most likely i agree on thinking its cocci. check n their poo for blood or diahrea.. good luck, sorry for your loss
I have the Brinsea mini advance for $150-$160, holds 7 eggs, temp control, digital display, auto turn, and it does a great job. When its about hatching time i stick a little dish of water in to increase humidity, and the chicks seem to pop out without any trouble. I love it!
I'm 30 years old and have been a vegan since 17... I'm also a nutritionist and personal chef and organic farmer. I'm not the one you need to lecture on the diet of 'early homosapeins" and you should really check out the true reasons to be vegan- or at least eat mainly a vegan diet. virtually no...
How is pointing out that roosters suffer in large scale hatcheries and factory farming 'vegan propaganda?' At least part of the article is valid. Usually the propaganda is against vegans.. and all the trash talking... time to find a different forum me thinks....
Best cuddly roo Yeti
My favorite super friendly full sized roo Shin Chan
This is Chucky. He became pure evil somehow. He would flap at, charge and attack anyone on sight. He had some babies naturally, and his baby boy roo looks just like him, but is as pleasant as can be. Hmm. People loved...
All my hens are pretty much silent except they talk to each other back and forth about food all day.. I'd say the quietest are my Sebrights, can't recall any of them ever making much of a noise at all. Silkies actually cause a ruckus imo, they love to chatter but they have the cutest voices...
If you have the pen space I'd recommend keeping them locked up most of the time, because their crests impair their vision. They are easy targets for sure. I know my Polish male can not see me and jumps 5 feet in the air when i come at him from an angle that he can't see. imo they're great birds...
Yeah I saw it a few times, they had Silkie meat on a
Halloween episode of Chopped and called it 'black chicken'. Chris i think commented something about how the meat looked scary but the actual animal was adorable.
we got some surprise chicks last Spring - some are Sebright crosses, some are Silkie crosses...
mf D'uccle x sl Sebright 'Leopard Birds'
Sebright x Phoenix 'Vladimir'
These two roos are white/citron with black patterning. Not sure what the color is called truly.

• Irrigating and washing the pet's wound will remove bacteria and debris from the injury site. Use an anti-bacterial soap, like Dial, to gently wash the skin wound and surrounding tissue. Then, allow warm water to flow over and into the wound for a period of two full minutes. This should be done...
