We live in a country area, but I took the advice of someones post and called Fish and Wildlife. The farmers out here would just kill it. They are coming to pick him up
Last week we saw the little bugger, so we set out a humane trap. Just saw that we have him/her in the trap and I want to know how far I have to take it off in order for him not to return. About 3 miles from here there is a nicely wooded area with a small stream. Is this too close? I believe the...

I have no idea. The thing is dislike about the shavings is they kick it into the waterer. I wonder if mulch would help solve this. I've never had a problem with mites. Actually, the only pest I've had is ants, and thats because where we live ants go where food is. (problem solved when...

My girls are used to a 10x6 run that is covered. They murdered the grass in October, so we've been giving cabbage, grass clippings, and weeds. I think they would like fresh grass. I do let them free ranges every week for a little while (usually 2 at a time) when we free range, mom...
You really should change the screen to hardware mesh. It's much stronger. I know it costs, but it's better than a dog slashing through it. I like the style. Might I suggest a roost in the run only bc my girls have one and they LOVE roosting in the sun, or when the ground is still frosted over.
I was thinking on the same thing, but believe I'm going to stain. My reason is I want my coop to blend in with the yard and stain would match nicely with our patio furniture. Our house is blue, but since the landlord is going to paint it next year, I'd hate to paint it blue and he change the...

I tend to agree. Maybe putting a ground cover on the run part, like mulch or something will slow them destroying grass totally. plus if it gets too bad, we can put them in a small tractor we already have and put down seed.
1. They spill the food all over the place. I put the food in the run, not the coop since there isn't a lot of room in there. When I used the rectangular feeders with the holes, the hens just scratched them until they tipped over. So, I switched to putting food in a square cake pan and hold it...
I have 5 hens at this time (a EE, Prod. Red, SLW/BA mix, BO mix, and dom.) Every morning I fill up their waterer, its a 1 gal. It doesn't leak, I've checked the bedding and floor around it... EVERYDAYwhen I get home from school its bone dry. I end up filling it about 3 times a day. The feed...
...threatened to create confined chickens, after talking it out, she's cool with it, she just got overwhelmed with recent events (I'm sure everyone *including me* can relate)
ANYWAY. I am building a coop big enough for 10-13 chicks *depending on if you use the 8sq ft or 10 sqft run rule* and I...
Thanks, I know cedar is bad, like the shavings and stuff they sell for dog kennels. I use pine for in the coop, but after hearing the person using them in her coop, I might consider that... I didn't know if they'd try to eat the mulch if it was cedar.
