I've been a member of this group for quite a while (10 yrs?), but apparently I never properly introduced myself😀 I own black australorps, light brahmas, black copper marans, and bantam cochins. I also have pekin, runner, and rouen ducks. Unfortunately, while I was at TSC last night, 2 buff...
GQF 1502 Sportsman incubator for sale. It's about 4 years old. Runs perfect. Large capacity. I've had 99% hatch rate with this incubator. Everything is automatic- just load the eggs, add the water to the bucket and let it go. New moisture wicks will be needed. Otherwise you're set. $500.00 or...
I just boiled our first batch of pullet eggs. When I peeled the first one and opened it, there was a membrane around the yolk. The membrane looked like egg white that hadn't cooked. The eggs were fully cooked though. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it a normal occurance for a pullet? Are...
I have 2 white silkie cockerel roosters for free. They were purchased from Meyer Hatchery in Polk, OH as day olds. Their hatch date was 10-28-13. They are on pellets and get fruits and veggies as snacks 2-3 times a week. Pics are of them at 19 weeks. Serious inquiries only, please!
Thanks for the input. I was thinking that it would be "wasted" space. I've got shed plans I'll be using to build a coop, but I can't see wasting the materials to make it taller if it won't really be used.
I think it's a great idea! My thoughts are to use whatever you can get. I've seen lots of nice projects made from recycled materials. Some look better than "new" items.
I'll be building a coop and run when the weather breaks. The question I have is, does the inside height of the coop count as square footage for the chickens? For example: if one coop is 4x4x4 (LxWxH) and one coop is 4x4x8, would the second one hold more chickens? Or is the height of the second...
Thanks for the info! I was hoping it was an odd looking female because I'm not keeping roosters. I'm rehoming the male hatchmate but I'll keep this one for now to be sure.
I made a previous post before I saw this thread. Here's the link. I hope it's ok.

I've had silkies before and could always tell the sexes. This one really has me stumped! It doesn't look like any I've had before. It also doesn't look like the cockeral or the pullets that were hatched the same time.
I purchased 2 white straight run day old silkie chicks the end of October. They are now 17 and a half weeks old. One is definitely a male. He has his comb and wattles, and has trying out his "new voice". The other one that I'm unsure about, has a very small (almost non existant) comb, tinier...
