I’m so happy to hear that your hen did well and is still with you! Ours sadly passed on Wednesday 😞. It’s been a very sad week for us. We lost a different hen on Sunday…. I’m really hoping we don’t lose another one!
Thank you for posting this. She sadly passed this morning - I'm thankful she didn’t suffer for a long time. I’m really hoping that whatever she and our other hen had isn’t contagious. I wasn’t ready to lose two of our sweet hens this week :-(. Thanks again for all your help.
We took her to the vet today to see what was going on. She is not egg bound but the vet thought she could have possibly had an internal laying because of the color of her poo. They gave her an antibiotic, diuretic, and NSAID for pain but since we’ve gotten home she has been extremely lethargic...
This is super helpful. Thank you so much!! I have put her in a dark, quiet room and will check on her again in the morning. I really appreciate your help!
Here’s a photo - it’s a little blurry and I couldn’t get my camera to work but this is what the area looks like. You can see the redness on her skin. Her poo is very liquid and runny - she hasn’t been able to really poop much since we brought her in the house though. She seems like she just...
I did that! I soaked it in water for a bit to soften it up and then gave it to her…. We have her in a bin right now for the night. I am really concerned about her though. I’ve done multiple epsom salt soaks now and she actually started preening herself for a bit. I’m hoping that she can relax...
Ok I stuck my finger up there with a glove but only got to my first knuckle…. I didn’t want to hurt her and I’ve never done this before. I didn’t feel anything but she is definitely trying to pass something now that I did that - nothing is coming out still. I tried to give her some bits of tums...
Thank you! I put her in some warm water to clean her up and I think I can feel an egg in there. Could she have an impacted egg? I’m gently massaging her abdomen in hopes it will come out…. I really hope she doesn’t die 😭
I need some help. I came home from work tonight and one of our hens is laying down with a purple-ish comb, drooping tail, and doesn’t look like she is feeling well. Another one of our chickens died yesterday and we aren’t sure why. The one who is sick today is about 4 years old. Any ideas on...
We recently had some flies around our run and it started to smell REALLY bad. I put a bunch of hay down as a temporary measure - the problem was we had a drainage issue so the poo wasn’t drying out at all. Much to my surprise the hay completely solved the problem (this was a month ago now). I am...
Thank you!! What you said about the girls - we have one pullet who hatched with the olive egger cockerel who chases him around the yard and tries to pluck the feathers out of him. It's kind of hilarious to watch, he runs away from her like his life depends on it 🤣. So I wonder if things will get...
Hahaha I’m learning that!! 😂 I’m gonna try what you suggested tonight if I can find something around the house to separate the roost with. We will start doing this every night and see how it goes! 🤞🏼
Thank you for responding. I know that our coop and run are too small - when you say that we should be able to let them free range all day in Central Kentucky do you think the hawks aren't an issue? We are in Lexington fairly close to downtown and the hawks have been hanging out above our house...
