Does anyone here know someone who has muscovies or sells muscovy hatching eggs in the area?

I ordered my first ducks from them. All healthy birds that did fine. Just be aware they don't breed to any SOP, and that's from their website or forums. Also, it was frustrating dealing with them because I could never get an answer from them about the price of the birds.

I've planted peas around President's day for the last two years with good success. I will probably plant 2 or 3 more times over then next week or so. This is my first year planting potatoes so I'm hoping I didn't jump the gun too much by planting them now...

I got about half my potatoes in Wednesday. Next week I'll try to plant the rest. I'll be putting in some corn and tomatoes around may as well.

help me pick a duck breed

x2 this. If you get 3-5 ducks, one drake is the absolute most you would want.

Haha, not at all! It was actually a gardening book that converted me to ducks in the first place. I had come to this site and was all excited about getting chickens. I had planned what style of coop I wanted and was narrowing down the list of breeds... and then I read a book where the author...

So anyone getting ready to plant peas and potatoes soon? I'm kind of curious if I can plant the peas in such a way that they won't be mowed over by the quackers as soon as they break ground... I tried a early sowing of kale and it was completely eradicated by either the ducks or slugs this winter.

I've got 8 ducks and drake currently. Kind of a mixed batch of indian runner types and khaki campbells. Are you saying I'm pushing a certain agenda?! I thought my opening post was more subtle than that... I'll have to work on that if my master plan for ducks to take over the world is to succeed!

Just stopping in to say Hi. I used to lurk and occasionally post in that other thread. I pretty much stick to ducks and with the weather we have had lately, I'm glad I do

Chicken Lady needs help with Runner Ducks

My first ducks were also runners and I had a similar experience. Mine didn't actually calm down until I got a trio of khaki campbells that had been raised in close proximity to people. I also hatched out a blend of the eggs and all those ducks were much friendlier and easier to manage than my...

Ughh, sorry to hear that. I had a time herding my ducks in last night as well. They really didn't want to go into a dark house. Power was out here for 12 hours or so as well.

Haha same here! It's weeks like this that I'm glad I have ducks. You would think they are in paradise now... Quote: I have had a large red tailed move in recently. Not losses to date, I'm hoping it has easier prey than ducks. Are the BOPs taking your pigeons?

Im wanting to buy ducks, but need some advice first!!

Any particular reason for call ducks? For free ranging flightless ducks I would think indian runner, khaki campbell, anacona, or welsh harlequin would be better suited for the task. Another advantage is they all lay better than calls. Also, indian runner and campbells are active breeds that...

@hobbychicken - Sorry no experience with call ducks here. Have you checked any of their eggs to make sure they are fertile? Also, I have heard call ducks are difficult to hatch. Might try on the duck forums. @bairo - Nice write up on the cooler-bator. I would assume you could use a smaller...

not all birds are created equal

Let me first say that I think celticoaksfarms has stunning khaki campbells, and after visiting their website it's quite obvious they take breeding and waterfowl care very seriously. I do think toadbriar brings up a valid point though, and I would love to see a serious breeders take on it...

@ AJ - Sorry for your loss, thoughts and prayers for you and your family. @ dncarr09 - I got my first birds from PH. I can say that they are healthy birds and I haven't had any problems with them. The man I dealt with was pleasant and friendly enough. However, hey don't breed to standard...
